Hey guys,
Done a compression test at the weekend and got these results;

Cylinder 1 - 210psi
Cylinder 2 - 210psi
Cylinder 3 - 180psi
Cylinder 4 - 180psi

Just wondering if you thought these readings were okay?
I know that 180psi is still a fairly high compression but wasnt too keen on the difference between 1,2 and 3,4.
What you think?

are they wet or dry?

i take it you had the throttle wide open too.

retest, dry then wet and see where you go from there

that 20psi diff shouldnt be too much to worry about. have you got webbers or TB's on it? as 3 and 4 are lower so the carb balance could be slightly out

Those results are dry tested and its just running on the standard SRi inlet manifold.
As for the throttle being wide open, it wasnt lol!

Would that make a huge difference?

feck me thats good compression then!!!!!!

dan gets 230psi WOT and his engine is stupid Cr lol

your engine is fine unless the two ends jump up a lot on a wet test

a wee bit excited there camb ! all sounds well in the engine department...

outa interest why were you doing a compression test? do you think you have a problem or are you just checking???

Yeah its a sweet engine, bought it from Ollster whos on here a lot when he decided to go for the 1.6 16v option.
The engine was really well looked after as it came out of his concourse car!

Just gave it a compression test because there seems to be a loss of acceleration but im thinking it might be that the timings out a bit.

Cambridge, what you mean by the two ends jumping up mate?

if, when wet tested, cyls 3 and 4 go up a lot more than say 1 and 2, then you may have bore wear. but then again if its not smoking then you shouldnt have.

Nah theres not any smoking but atleast i know ive got good compression now lol! I'll do a wet test though.

If a sensor somewhere is on its way out, am i right in that the engine management light might not come on?

if a sensor dies then the ecu light should come on.
