I just got given an F reg 1 litre, 2 door blue nova saloon for my first car! I'm well chuffed with it as it has a CD player and some OK speakers, the only problem I have with it is its look. I really want to mod it up a bit so it at least looks... not embarassing.

Its bog standard at the moment, I don't have too much to spend, probably about ?400, what do you think would be my best options to get it looking a bit more cool?

Cheers for the help :)

i think its the body that needs most attention... 2 questions:

1) Are there any body kits around for nova saloons?!
2) How much will it bump up the insurance?

I agree with the wheels and lowering it, the current wheels are shocking.

hi - I had the same dilemma when I bought my saloon. firstly - lower it 60mil rather than 40 - i originally lowered mine 40 and it still looked high, im in the process of changing the springs to -60mil at the mo, 15" alloys, try and get some from a breakers such as cav ones they'll be around ?60, replace the bumpers with items from a later mk2 model, wings , grille and lights too if your feeling adventurous ( not hard really) about ?50. If your car hasnt got the black numberplate plinth, get one of those, for a few quid, get the bumpers and wings sprayed up (around ?100) maybe fit a mk2 dash too - cheap enough mod just requires time and patience and finally I fitted a renault 19 16v spoiler. this lot should be well within your budget and will look smart yet subtle.

the body kit for a 3 door hatch will fit apart from the rear bumper, the side skirts an front bumper are all the same

u could always use a cav GSi rear bumper, it will fit after some modification. Think u have to chop it in half and rejoin it somehow after taking like 1" off it

cheers for the help lads, espesh rednova about the lowering and spoiler - I've always thought the boot looks so out of place on the car unless it has a big spoiler on it to even out the look, if you get what i mean.

The ebay car is phat, bit over the top for what I can afford, but your right, definitely some sweet ideas on that machine!

yeah those cav wheels - ive seen a few sets go for ?60 round my way - and theres a banged up cav sri in a breakers with a set on too - you could always get some other cav/astra 15's though

theres a scrappies near my house. usually get lodsa wheels asd other mods in it. a few good valvers in it too. me and my mate went in and came out with 4 6x9s and a 10" sub for ?15!

Front and sides are the same, its the rear that'll give you jip. As mentioned above, try a chopping a cav rear. Or get a mk2 and play with that.

2) How much will it bump up the insurance?
Depends what you do I guess, but check with your insurance company first and GET IT IN WRITING! - CIS screwed me over with body mods, assured me there was no extra charge then put my 1.2 hatch from group 4 to modified group 6 after fitting a bodykit, cost me an extra ?70 (thats when the insurance cost me about ?600 FC), but they wouldn't fork out any extra if i claimed.

I'd say keep it tidy, don't go mental on kits and stuff else it'll end up looking like a chavved up escort lol. Save a bit of cash getting 2nd hand stuff - try to keep it to vauxhall kit so it doesn't stand out as the rest of your car will still be pretty standard (nothing worse than a standard nova with ????'s worth of silly alloys on it). Also, the subtle look won't catch the eye of your average car-jacking chav, although I'd still advise spending a bit of that money on even just a basic alarm.
