Ok so starting off with a 1.2 Carb Nova engine (not sure on the Code) What can be fitted to/From it.

For example, can u stick a 1600 GSi bottom end to a 1200/1300/1400 head etc etc etc.

Basically im after Performance on a budget which u can get from any local scrappers?

Without upsetting the insurance people...

for budget performance just fit the following:

Weber 32/34 DTML carb with 1.3sr inlet manifold
K&N bolt on filter
1.4SR camshaft
SR/GTE exhaust system and manifold

IIRC the 1.2 head is better than the 1.4 etc. ones so keep it..

All of the above can be sourced rather cheaply and should give an overall noticeable gain in performance for not a lot of cash

You could get your cam reprofiled (like mine!) for 'bout 70-80 quid.

Heads on 1.6 block: by my calculations, 1.2 head would make 12:1 compression ratio - probably too high. Don't know though never done it.

1.4 is just poor, as Dan said.

1.3 = 11.3:1 compression ratio. As for its performance on a 1.6 block - I should be able to tell you in the next few days

On a serious budget:

Carb, inlet manifold and associated plumbing from a 1.3SR late type (After '86, 13ST engine)
Camshaft from the same

5-speed Close Ratio box from either mk2 1.4SR, SRi, GTE or GSi

Good for a few extra horsies :D
