View Full Version : Engine Transportation

I have found that the best way to transport an engine is to get a pallet made up for it, and then strap the engine into it somehow.
I can get a pallet made by a company in Slough. ?12.
I will have to have no top on the pallet and one of the sides missing too.
A 1.6 GTE engine measured up for a pallet is 2.5ft in Height (27 inches)
3ft in Length (35 inches)
2.5ft in Width (25 inches)
Are these sizes gonna be ok for a pallet for the 2 litre 16v??
ANY IDEAS?

sid do what ged says. go and nick a pallet and go to any motorist shop and get 2 ratchet straps (m/cycle straps) strap it to the pallet, it wont move
If it isn't kev it isn't worth it !!!

Yeah I was thinking of a sorta box thing ..help me for storage too until my car gets back... I got that idea from John Avison, as he nicked a pallet from work and built a frame around it to house the engine.
I'll investigate about the pallet from the big stores as well though.

get a pallet from an industrial estate etc and strap it to the pallet nice and firmly, u could use rope or motor cycle straps (these straps are the same sort of thing they put through your front wheels when you are on the back of a tow truck to stop your car rolling off the back)
then lob it in the back of a car/van with the seats down.

ged, have you actually ever tried shifting a 2.0 16v engine? they weigh an absolute ton!!! when I picked mine up from down south, I put it in the back of my dads transit, but it wasn't easy to do, cos we had to lift it into the back. I wouldn't fancy trying to lift a pallet and engine into the back of a car, it would be an arse of a job!!!
2.0 16v on it's way soon!!! (again!!!!) :)

Lol!
"they weigh an absolute ton!!!"
Hmm could this be a major disadvantage of a 2.0l or are all 2.0l drivers just too puny to lift a lil'ol valver engine? :p

it's all the bits attached to it that add the weigh gearbox, injection system etc etc 2 peeps can easily carry a block, head, gearbox combo

that is true, when I got my engine, it still had the gearbox and injection system attached and it was well awkward to move!!!

when i said 'lob it in the back' it was a bit of an understatement :p
but as ste says, i've lifted a 2.0 8v before with a mate and it wasn't impossible

Well the pallet wont add much weight to it... i have to deal with weights of pallets alot in my job... and on average they weight about 26kg, depending how wet/dry they are it can go up as far as 38kg or even down to 15kg... just depends on how much moisture they have in them.
The name is misleading - I am not wise, or wooden.
