i had the same problem with mine.
this is the story on how to get one.
be warned, that crappy little piece of metal costs about ?80.

you need to go to a vauxhall dealer and order one with them. about ?45
you need to go to the police and get a certif to prove your car has been checked over.
you need insurance cert, mot cert and driving liscense plus this cert from cops.
once you have all the above, they will order you one.

then here's the iceing.
they charge you ?35 for a hours work to put in 2 rivots.
only they are allowed to fit the vin plate as they have to prove its been done.
vin plate takes upto 10 days to arrive.

oh, and if the cops aint happy with your car, they impound it!

mine has gone awol
had all new front end renewed when i had it off the road to be sprayed an the bodyshop lost it.
mine has been through an mot without it an only problem i can see is when i come to sell it,
but engine no and vin number next to the seat match v5 doc so not gonna worry about it

*waits for someone to tell me its against the law not to have one

all the VIN plate is is a easy to see chassis number plate, the actual chassis no. is on the floor and cant be removed, this is the one that the police check, or should check. all that the fearless one is is a reg number, chassis number and a 'build no' which is like a fearless referance number really. could make your own.

No - Why ??

As far as I'm aware - It doesn't have to be the original chassis tag - as long as it displays the required details !

I've seen many works rally cars with chassis tags stamped in alloy or printed on carbon

Please correct me if I'm wrong - (Goes off to look up legal requirements for chassis tags on the internet !!!!! )

as far as i know its not illegal not to have a vin plate.
The mot they use the vin number on the drivers side floor pan.

As brett has done you can just get one made up.
They can tally the identity of the car of the log book and the vin number.
ect ect

:)

im gonna get one made up simlar to mr fearless effort.
:) very neat dave!

Works rally cars also run ultra small front number plates, there a MOT failure (I should know!).

Even if they are MOT friendly, some copper isnt likely to know, resulting in giving you (or anyone else using one) grief.

it is on your mot. it depends on if you know the garage well enough.

my gte failed its mot on no vin plate.

i know the fellas at the garage well, and once they had marked it on the cert failure sheet, it had to be done. they did give me the cert pass. but said to get the vin plate sorted.

once i went through all the trouble as stated before, i went down and showed them that i had it done.

Dave

is easy to swap a vin plate much harder to cut out the floor around the vin an weld a new vin in
