Right,
I have a XE lump from a GTE but without the alternator.
Can i use a Cavvy 16v one as GTE's are becoming as rare as hens teeth!

i have a cav one, i think they are all the same an even if their not you can still use it i would have thought
What if the alternator has got a um... ribbed/splined pulley?
Does the crank pulley have to have the ribbed/grooved type things as well?

Yeah it would but i'm sure it wouldn't fit into a nova, you'll need the early type alternator, my mate fitted a nova 1.2 alternator to his valver but had to use a different bracket!
I am using one from a GTE (nova) they are identical to the 16v astra one

Is the GTE one the same as the GSI?
Have you had to mod the bracket to get it to fit properly?
