I know that both these engines had Mahle Pistons as standard.... But were they Forged???
Cheers
Neil
pass but mahle did pistons for the rover k series and they werent forged, as they were crap lol
so they could have done similar type ones for the xe and let but done them properly
LET's do have Forged Mahle jobbies in.
Early XE's had forged Mahle pistons (when cosworth made the engines)
But std pistons are good for 8k though.

Just a slight correction to this, Cosworth never made the XE engines they only made the cylinder heads. Rick
Damn i was going to say that!
Bastid!
My bad then. But I do know that the early XE's had a slightyl different block casting (more strengthenign) the Cranks were lighter and the pistons forged items.
Not to mention the heads.
and to suggest an idea to rick
i dont think cosworth even cast the heads. they just designed/helped design them

It is actually the LET blocks that have aditional webbing and some of the very last XE's might have got them. Rick

I must be miss informed.
Cosworth did cast and finish the head, that's why they have the <coscast> stamped on them. They are also different casts to the KS ones, the valve guides are fatter and the seats can accept larger valves as std. :D

coscasts also came with brass valve guides from the factory where no coscasts didn't.
Not sure how true this is but i was told of an engineering firm that the coil pack blocks were webbed the same as the turbo's but thay had the weakest heads out of all the xe's!

In actual fact by the time the Diz pack heads came out vaux were using a mish mash of heads and blocks, some even came with coscast heads, some did not, some had LET style blocks some did not. All depended what they could find. Rick
