is it just me or is the most recent publication of the nova haynes manual about as much use as 12"alloys, it seems like they just gave up nothging is corectly explaind and seems to miss out some of the most important parts the old version (in my grandads opinion) was far superior,

hats off to the fellas at max power who gave us the thrilling guide into modding your nova but for the poor sod'z out there with a mk 1 nova's ther seems to be very little on the subject, and dont you get the feeling they were just filling pages up for the sake of it, when on page 26 they show you how to put an alloy fule cap on ????........not rocket science really

i have come to the conclusion that

A: haynes really dont want us modding novas if they can help it

B: that we should all burn our copies of the nova haynes manual

C: novaload should publish there own nova moddin manual
n do things propely!
id pay ?20, wudnt you?

or im probably just chatting s**t n shoud shuttup about it now

I have a haynes. I only have the wiring diagram bits left because the rest is complete rubbish, I had a 205 beam adjustment clip last night, haynes said, remove the clip, lever up the clips either side of the light and pull out forwards, refitting is the reverse of removal. THANKS haynes, BTW the clip is a right cnut to get in as there is about as much space to wedge a finger in.

Anyone who has done one will know what I mean.

I found my Haynes fairly handy for some things, just as a rough guide and for wiring diagrams etc. But mine was the old one not the max poo one. However the Haynes for my Escort is crap. such wonderufl comments as "The idle control valve is located at the back of the engine below the inlet manifold". Doesnt tell me what it looks like, or where exactly im looking. They do serve their purpose though.

i love it when it has a two or three spanners to show how difficult it is. Undo bolts take off blah blah, what it really means is that you will lose some blood, snap a bolt and take lots of skin off your hands

Dpnova

should have a skin loss and cut rating on each thing

Also what they never thought of was the condition that most of the skin tearing bolts are in, that's why they are painful for both you and the nut/bolt lol.

Right i notied this as well(well my dad and i wer talking on this awhlie back) so we wrote them a letter asking haynes why the manuals had changed, there answer was as far too many car repair garages feel they wer loosing trade and busness to the DIY weekend guy..etc(you get the idea..

As the copy of most books today contains far less infomatoin on how to take appart say your gearbox, where as in older vesions it was explaned step by step with xpolded view pictuers...

you can see there is a diffeance by how they named then on the cover...

newer style is called a Service and repair manual..

http://img90.exs.cx/img90/1600/heyn2.jpg

And the best picture i could find was this..

http://img60.exs.cx/img60/6995/novman2.jpg

Now this is not a nova i know but it was my first car,so is the oldest i could find..

You notice how this is called a Owners workshop manuual

http://img60.exs.cx/img60/374/fesman2.jpg

And there pics are of better detail of step by step on how to take just about everything and enything appart and fix it..
Like so...

http://img51.exs.cx/img51/2438/festman2.jpg

I hope you get the point i was making..though i would juse let you all know what they did and why..

Yes, the haynes manual is about as useful as a chocolate fire gaurd.

I loved it when it said "to remove the gearknob, place it in a pan of boiling water" wot bullshit, that doesn't work at all !

it also says that changing the gearbox is as easy as removing a doorcard LMAO!

changing the gear box imo is easier than taking off the sodding door card! lol

as for the gearbox bit, haynes suggest that you leave gearbox stripping to the pros. i found this out, but i still tear inot them as its easy now ive had the nerve to do it. and ill rebuild a gearbox if people want :)
