Hi just a quicky question here my nova sri (k reg) has done 115,000 miles it has full service history, drives like new, burns no oil, but it taps a bit when started from cold in the morning for a bit, so i was wondering whether it would be ok to put mobil 1 in. Any ideas? Also have any of you noticeted a diffrence while using shell optimax petrol (apart form the price)?

Ive got a nova SRi just clocked over the 100k mark. Ive started to use Mobile 1 (the geezer from halfords recommended it and the magnetec I was using was crap). Havnt had the chance to test see whether its really good yet as I've been having troubles with my car. On a good point let the engine warm up in the morning for a couple of minutes and then it runs smooth and fine.

if it taps you might want to try using a thicker oil !

10w 40 is the best

i aint laughing no more and those stupid little faces can fuck off !

well it only does it for a couple of secs and tinner oil gets round the engine quicker and mobil 1 pretty good anyway at protecting engines

i had mobil 1 in my 1.4sr and it blew up twice and the oil used to seap out of everywhere (it's just too thin for old engines and it loosens up all the carbon in the engine)
i ended up using genuine vaux semi and it was 100% better no leaks and it didn't burn it
i will be going back to vaux semi when my 16v is back on the road (i was using 60p per liter shitty castrol)

16v Nova - Toolkit, Trouble, Points and great expence all come as standard :)

2.0 16v back soon :D

15W 40 GTX Magnitec is what I use - nice and thick oil ;)

ur supposed to use 15w xxxx for engines that rnt so new, such as the 1.2/1.3/1.4 engines.
newer engines u can use 10w xxxxx.
using the thinner 10w xxx oil on older engines means that when the oil has thined out to a viscosity of 10 it will seap through the seals.
Im sure iv seen Mobil 1 in both 10/40 and 15/50 like castrol did around a year ago when they introdeced magnatec fro basic engines.
Last winter i swoped form castrol gtx 15/50 to magnetec for basic engines 15/50 and the tapping noise i got disapeared on cold starts!

Mark Beason uses Vaux Semi-Synthetic oil too...
& so will I.

Using Mobil1 in the older Vauxhall engines is quite dangerous - the oil is far too thin.
Even the X16XE engine as fitted to the last of the Corsa B Sports isn't supposed to be run with Mobil1.

like i said, there is more than 1 viscosity of Mobil 1. so get the correct type, simple

there is a vaux garage in glossop that fits M1 as standard in the service unless u tell them not to
