im so sick of this now
Atherstone residents plagued by boy racers, who use the Co-op car park as a meeting place, have called for barriers to keep them out.
Tired neighbours who cannot sleep due to the noise from teenaged drivers racing up and down the car park want to see some kind of barrier installed to stop the youngsters accessing the car park when the store is closed.
One woman whose home virtually overlooks the Co-op said: "They go racing around the car park with their lights on in cars that backfire.
"Every time one of them leaves they bib their horns to say goodbye.
"Sometimes they just have their lights on and they are chatting.
"Other times they have their music on and it's quite loud."
She believes up to nine vehicles gather on the car park between 11pm and 12am as often as three times a week.
"One morning I woke up at 4am and could hear cars but I can't be sure it was the same ones," she added.
In response a spokesperson for Midlands Co-op said: "The store has made contact with the police concerning the problems in the car park after closing hours.
"Initially there has been an improvement. However, we are investigating alternatives as to how we can improve the situation further, including the possible installation of a barrier."
And Chief Inspector Neil Hewison of North Warwickshire police told the Herald he was aware of the problem.
He said: "It is an issue we are aware of and our local officer has been dealing with those concerned but he can't be there all the time.
"We do have new public orders powers which came in to force in April and allow us to disperse groups of kids if there is a proven track record of a problem in an area.
"We are looking to do this in the Lister Road area and we could look at using it in the Co-op area."
He explained that if a Superintendent and a local authority agree there is a problem of anti-social behaviour in an area they can evoke powers, enabling officers to formally request people to move on.
If they do not move they can be arrested.
The new powers also allow officers to take home those under the age of 16.
But Chief Supt added: "We don't just use this straight away.
"We try to use it proportionately. Otherwise it would minimise its effect."
Yet another mindless idiot has just raced down my street putting at risk the lives of our children, loved ones and pets. I live on a smallish Tamworth cul-de-sac called Rothay but I'm thinking of changing the street sign to 'Rothay Racetrack'.
I have tried various methods to get these lunatics to slow down. I have asked them nicely and I have also tried asking them not so nicely. I have even gone as far as taking registration numbers and contacting the police.
That is where you'd think that police would take over and have a word in the ear of these idiots but no. The police just send out a standard dangerous driving complaint form that you have to fill in, get various witnesses to complain with you, write down every occasion people speed for a period of time and then expect you to go to court as a witness so they can try to prosecute them! Well if I did that for every 'boy racer' up and down this street I might as well move into Tamworth Magistrates Court!
It is about time the council considered speed humps in the middle of streets that seem to be having this problem, and when I say humps I don't mean the tiny ones that they have put round Birds Bush Road that do not make any difference to the speed you can do, I mean a LARGE speed hump so these idiots have to use their brakes.
If the council has a problem with funding for such humps then I am more than willing to spend any savings I have to provide one so that the children and pets of Rothay can cross the road without the risk of being injured or killed.
The councillors and police really need to step up their fight against these 'boy racers' and various other non-conforming yobs as Tamworth is becoming a place where decent folk who want their families to remain safe just do not want to live anymore.
i have just emailed them, with a rather good comment, go buy the Tamworth Herald thursday to see it ;)
