I have got a Nova with a 2ltr 8v engine in..... unfortunately (dont know how this happened) driving down the motorway it went bang and i now have got a hole in the fromt of ma block and no oil filter anymore.

anyways my question is:

would it be easier to stick a c20xe engine in or replace the existing 130sri engine? i guess that the mounts are the same but will i have to adapt anything to get the 16v engine in? I know you have to mod the chassis leg when u put the 16v engine in so the alternator will fit but does this apply to the 8v aswel? i.e. will it already have been done!

also would it be better to use the F16 box with the C20xe or should i stick with the F20 that will come with the engine? u know coz its a close ratio box etc.....

Cheers guys

if the oil filter is at the front of the block then its not a 2.0 in there mate

yeh i was about to say on the 130 sri the oil filter is at the bottom of the engine near the crank pully.

what about the c20ne? is it down the bottom on one of those?

if its a small block u prolly dont have an F16 either?

check the back of the box near the diff housing (normally under the linkage area) to see...

my mistake.... it is down at the bottom.... and yes its still there!

but i do have a hole in the block, where the oil filter goes on the smaller models... u know just to the side of the downpipe.

just want to know if the c20xe is the same mounts and whatnot as the 8v engine.... would it be pretty much a straight swap?!

cheers

yep but you'll need to do the usual 20xe fitting mods, ie bending clutch cable hole and chopping down heater matrix pipe and denting the chassis leg

if you have the 2.0 as it sounds like you have now then yes its a straght swap. you will as said need to do the clutch cable mod and the heater matrix one but it will more than likely have the chassis mod already. just put the mounts from the 8v on the 16v then whack it in, job done, you will need to do the ehaust and wiring again tho

is it alot of work changing all the wiring over?

i know i'll have to connect it all up to the battery and earth but will it involve cutting into the loom to add new sections for the new engine? does any1 have any wiring diagrams or anything that might help?

also would it be better to use the f20 box or should i stay with the f16 thats in it at the moment?

Cheers all
