induction noise

why does my engine not have much of a growl? its a gsi, early type with the bosch jetronic airflow meter. had a k&n 57i on it but it was choked, thought this was the prob so bought a new green cotton filter. the engine runs better but still not much of a note. any ideas?

spray carb cleaner while the car is running, take the filter off and spray bout a third of a can down the pipe that should help unblock and bits of crap the might be building up, it worked on my GTE

its prob that there isnt much induction noise because it is being 'silenced' by all the parts of the standard induction stsyem, ie airflow meter, all that hose, airbox etc.... not a greatdeal that you can do except change to throttle bodies or go to carbs if you want induction noise, all a bit extreme if you only want the noise tho.
