View Full Version : modern features for nova?

just wondering how difficult it would be to fit some features from newer cars IE airbag and ABS to the nova?
i know the wheel will physically fit on the car but how does the airbag wiring work?
is there some kinda multi contact ring inplace of the horn ring?
also ive been looking at ABS systems, ive locked the brakes up about 3 or 4 times recently in the wet and realised that if any of those scenarios had been real emergencies (and not a new speed hump i didnt notice or stray cone lying in the middle of the road) it would have resulted in a smash simply because the brakes locked
is it simply a case of getting the ABS pump and ecu from a corsa or astra or summat and replumbing the novas braking system into it?
i know there are sensors on the rear drums and somewhere on the front? possibly driveshafts?
some info would be appreciated
thanks

i posted about the abs bout a month ago. they said you need to change the hubs for corsa one and fit an abs pump. few people seemed to think it was a lot of effort for nothing and would be difficult to set up.

dry braking is fine just wet is really the issue
as camb said yer learning to do "manual abs" is all fine but when ur in an emergency situation with a very short distance between u and obstacle your first reaction is to stand on the brake pedal
both times this has happened to me in the last week i'd havebeen able to stop just fine if i'd been given prior warning and had to brake in the distance available in a controlled manner, first time was a cone lying in the middle of the road just over the brow of the hill, i braked hard and it locked up, i did however manage to pump the pedal a few times which worked a lot better but still not amazingly well. the second time a road i drive along infrequently but is local has recently had one of thosesquare humps fitted. drove along there the other night and noticed the hump from about 10-15m away, locked up the brakes and ended up lifting off the pedal just as i hit itwhich i was probably still doing 25-30mph
i dont mind some graft to make it work,
why would i need corsa hubs tho - ive fitted a corsa leg/steering knuckle to my nova before and the hubs went streight on?? - surely i just need the bracket for the ABS pickup and the toothed outer CV?
The airbag would be simple enough but wether or not it would be safe is another thing, a badly fitted airbag will cause more harm than good.
ABS will also increase your braking distance!
get better tyres before you go for an attempt at fitting ABS.
you also have to fit the warning lamp etc to be legally ok.

for the airbag you'll need to install the sensors - theres 2 of em - one mechanical and one electrical , the airbag only operates when they are both tripped together (in an accident) it really would be an expensive mod to a nova - it'd probably be cheaper to buy a corsa and swap body shells - two questions -how were you going to see if it was installed correctly, crash your car? would this not seriously invalidate insurance - homemade airbags?
would this not seriously invalidate insurance - homemade airbags?
I would imagine this would majorly invalidate any insurance.
being as were talking about mod-cons has any body else concidered using air-con out of a nexia in a nova ???
youd have to do an XE conversion to run it lol
i mean i even notice it when i fre the AC up on the omega!
