View Full Version : Adjusting closed throttle position on twin 40's

Right, its going to be hard to explain but basically when one of my carbs is fully closed, the other is slightly open, and when the throttle is opened up to full, the other one is fully open and the other isn't because it's being held back by the other-if you get what i mean :o  :?:
All i need to know is how to adjust the throttle position-i've tried playing around with the shaft that runs through but no luck. Do i need to remove the butterflies to adjust it? I think i'm going to buy the weber haynes manual, but for now, does anyone know? Cheers

there is a skrew adjuster in the centre of the carbs, where the linkage goes down in between the carbs. this is used to ballance them. if one of the carbs is way out compared to the other then that wont have enough to take up the slack if you understand. not sure if this has helped

Sorry guys i knew that one was there-i've adjusted that one fully and still need about half an inch more! It's weird because when they were on the 1.3 manifold they were setup fine and now i've put them on my 1.6 manifold they out?! I dont really see what has changed.

Any other ideas? If not i'll probably go out and buy the weber haynes, "refitting is the reversal of removal"

you might of bent the spindles if they are still out.

and if you are going to get a manual get this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1903706750/qid=1099908032/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/026-7361705-6862025

how do yuo know they are out? If your using an airflow meter then maybe one of the carb's is leaking air in at manifold or something.

Hard to say without seeing but maybe everything is alright.
The balance screw works by opening one throttle at a time. For example As you turn the screw, the left carb butterflies stay closed while the others move. Both carbs don't move at the same time.
Maybe you just need to screw it in the other direction.

- Or the spindles are bent!

Snowface the carbs aren't on the car yet.

Feel like abit of a fool now though  It's all sorted now-after looking at them again, i had put the carbs on kind of one then the next. The arm from one of them needs to go in-between the screw and the sprung bit and i had fitted them on the new manifold with it just on top
There is one real problem that someone might be able to help me with though-the kid that took them off his car sheared off one of the bolts attatching the v-shape support bracket underneath-anyone know how i could get it out? Weld a blob on then try to un-do it like that? Could i get away with araldite'ing it or would that not be strong enough?
Is the bracket that important-preventing fuel frothing etc?
Cheers for all the help :+:

v-shape support bracket :?:

bit more detail please.

Thought all t40's would have one but maybe not? V-shape support bracket-underneath the carbs, it attatches to the inlet manifold and has 2 arms running to the end of each carb. It then bolts into the bottom of each carb but one bolt has sheared off. I guess it just supports the weight of the carbs? If no-one else has one then maybe mine isn't really necessary and i dont need it?
But if i need to get it out-any idead as to how? I could drill it out but the thread is hardened steal and the carbs are alloy-could easily do damage

ohh :?:
Well anyway i've managed to drill a hole in whats left of the stud, tap a new thread in the hole i drilled and fit it that way. But now i'm not sure weather to use it or not if no-one else has got one? It might be a home made bracket that the kid i bought them off had made up-maybe he thought it was a good idea to support them :?:
