maybe the arm on the sender is bent
how is it 2 find tht out??
ment 2 say, it will work fine then it will go of the clock.
U'd have to take the fuel sender out of the petrol tank and take alook at the earm. they are suipposed to have a bend half way so i guess u'd have to compare it to another.
Ive got a petrol tank sitting on my drive, i'll get a pik of the arm and post it tomorrow.
It might be that somebody's taken it our before and put it back correctly.
When you refit it you can rotate it a full 360'
if it was put back at the wrong angel then i am sure that would cause a similar problem also.
On the other hand you could just have a dodgey connection at the fuel sender. Theyre known for corroding on the older models.

thanx for your help will have alook 2mora. if you can post pic will be great.
Slow down people...if the sender arm was bent it wouldn't show an off the scale reading, it would still be within the normal range just reading wrong!
If it was up side down it would read exactly the opposite of what is in there, so if it was full it would read empty etc.
I would say that the needle isn't in the right place, your dash got aftermarket dials? Does it rest below 0 when ign off? ?10 from reserve will fill a carb tank to just under full, (as a point of reference).
It will be the fuel sender. Mine has started doing it on the gsi, and now it just stays theRE! LOL
It is a common prob tbh.
I never trust nova fuel gauges just reset the clocks when you fill up and work on this rough guidelines for a GSi/GTE...
Full tank- 330 miles
?20's worth- 200 miles
?10's worth- 100 Miles
you will go further than that but always air on the side of caution.
Aint got no camera no more
Sorry mate
Full tank- 330 miles
?20's worth- 200 miles
?10's worth- 100 Miles
Lucky b***ard!

before you do anything just check the really silly stuff...
.... has 1 of the wires come unpluged???
.... has one of the wires become earthed/ground???
.... IS THE FUEL TANK FULL / EMPTY???
i have just had my sender replaced - ?165 at vauxhall. and still doesnt work right. could it b the dash? its an sr dash in a 1.2 carb, would that mess it up?
