View Full Version : will white spirit damage the rocker
Just got my XE home and am absolutly chuffed to bits with it, except one thing. Someone's done a really crap job of painting the rocker cover.
Am i safe to strip it with white spirits or will it have an adverse affect with metal?
i could try using wire wool and soapy water but dont want to scratch it and i know the salt in soap will encourage rusting.

why dont you use fine wet and dry to remove any runs muck etc in the cover and also to key it and paint over the top..give it a couple of coats and then laquer it and jobs done! just go to finer paper to obtain a scratch free finish

it won't rust... it's alloy
.... i'd be more bothered about all the bits your missing!!!
p.s. who's fitting it?
why ste are u offering?
guess ur right, should get the other bits first but i left my job last week and its one of the jobs that i can do before the cash flow returns.
I was gonna try and fit it my self, ive done straight gsi swaps, and done engine swaps in ford escorts. SO i have a little experience, first conversion though.
Front leg's been bashed in (cheers for the pics ste) hole for the clutch cable's been bent over and the engine's come out of a nova so all the wiring should be pretty simple.
Am i right in thinking that the ecu needs to go in the drivers foot well?

You should be okay to use white spirit on it, just rinse it off with water afterwards. Wouldn't have thought it will have an effect on the metal.
