i've been thinking about getting some throttle bodies off a bike for my car. what bike would be a suitable doner? i have been told that the bore sizes might be too small but i can't see that being a problem seeing as my carbs have 30mm chokes.

any idea's?

cheers

if you can get them from an r1 or something simmilar than you will be ok, bike ones are supprisingly large due to the high state of tune the engines are in, i mean over 150bhp per letre is madness on a nova engine so i would not worry about the size of them

i have found a set from a gsxr 600 and they are 40mm tapers.

the 40mm's were on a blade not a gsxr

a guy on mig tackled this a while back may be wortha search on there for some more info, also an article in retro cars about a mini with an ecotech running bike TB's on megasquirt DIY management

as far as i can see the biggest problem would be sorting out a inlet manifold

easy enough to make you own inlet manifold will just take abit of time thats all

30mm chokes?!?!?!?!??!

eek

id have thought youd run atleast 32mm ones

I think he was talking about the throught size not the choke, although if he is running 40 DCOE's he must mean the choke... I'd have thought that would be too small 40 > 30 ...
...Ideas any1

TB's are different to carbs as there's no choke to restrict the air flow. becuase of the jets that sit inside the choke a 30mm choke does have a cross section of 30mm due to this.
40mm TB's can flow up to 220BHP before they become restrictive :o As confimred by Richard Jenvey, so they have plenty of flow for a 1.3.

i do know how the chokes work in carbs and how TB's work

anyway TB'ing a small engine with 40mm un choked will cause a massive loss in low end performance as the air speed wont be high enough to justify the massive x sectional area (by comparrison to a 40mm dceo with a 30/32mm choke)

bikes carbs/TB's are good for this as they have a small capacity and can benefit the small regular engines

stu, i got the carbs with 30mm's in them. i spoke to velos about them and they said that was fine for my spec. if i go to bigger valves and more gasflowing in the head i might change to 32mm's. although i was speaking to a mate today about a supercharger  one from a cooper s. he reckons i could have it running for less than ?250 carbed aswell, no injection to mess around with.

i think cp and mc ran 30mm chokes aswell

mine run on 30mm chokes also. power all the way to the redline.

altough my engine is 50cc smaller than benji's.

31mm would be worth trying on mine but i can't be arsed to get hold of a set and its running good as it is.
