Hey all. My cousin is thinking about converting his 1.0 to a 1.2spi. Theres a few things he wants to know:
Are the mounts the same?
Can he use the 4 speed box?
Would it be possible to use the 1.0 carb instead of the injection?
If he uses the carb is theree any extra wiring that needs to be used?
Is it possible to use the automatic choke with the 1.0 carb?
Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Also just incase someone is wondering his 1.0 engine is dead and he got the 1.2spi for ?20. He can't put anything bigger in due to insurance.
Thanks.

mounts are the same
you can use the 4 speed box
dont think you can use the 1.0 carb as the manifolds are different
the 1.0 can not be auto choke
the petrol tank will need changing aswell for a 1.2i one

and the 1.2i is only 45 bhp the same power as a 1.0 :o your mate would be better off with a 1.2 carb as there are more power 55 bhp :D

As I said he has the 1.2spi. If he runs it as a carb the tank won't need changing. Would it be possible to mount the carb on to the spi's manifold?

no best thing to do would be to get a carb full head and fit that with the 1.2 carb manifold aswell

but the tank is stil goin to need changing as there is no return feed on the 1.0

but if you are goin to fit the 1.2 spi then again the tank is needed but would be less work then to start changing heads

yeah a lot less work in 1.0 carb > 1.2 carb. leave the single point alone.
all youll get is more economy.

STOP. No the gearbox wont work with the 1.2. I found this when i did the same conversion. the bell housing pattern is different from the 1 to the 1.2 althought the gbox internals are the same its a different casing,
and the carb from the 1l is too small for the 1.2 and wont fit on the manifold and the 1l manifold is very different to the 1.2 one/engine

plus the engine mount at the front is differnet, the pressed metal part the bolts directly to the engine, good news is that the part on the shell is the same for all nova's, so no welding needed.

I'm guessing the general consensis is don't bother?

the consensus is to not bother with a 1.2 spi, but say a 1.2 carb, or 1.3 or 1.4 carb. is a more gainful change.

well that a lot better for you then as it will have more power :D

you are still going to need to change the fuel tank though for oner that has a return feed :D
