The 1.4 single point Astra, the multi point one, the SR Nova and the SRi Nova's Engine? The Single Point Astra engines are plentiful around here, but the SR ones aren't.

So, if i were to fit a single point Astra engine what would i need to bring it up to SR spec, or how would I go about bring up the power, Cav 1.6 carb?

Is that the MK2 astra engine?

I was told they were shite, fitted one but never actually got it set up so ran shite anyway, it was the blue one I posted before, wouldn't wanna know above 6000rpm!

Naw, its the MK3. The 92 up wards. Its just that I've to get an engineers report on my Nova before i can get an insurance quote, and i want a `1.4 engine of some kind plumbed into it so i wont have to go through this hassle again in a few months.

Yeah they wanted an engineers report from me, i said ill get one, phoned then back up again without a report and said Nova 1.8 they said fine (also said that'll be ?650 TPFT) KEEEERRRRRRRR---CHING

Yeah but I've turned mine into a Van and they have no 1.2 litre Nova Vans on their system and the closest thing is the 1.5 litre, the diesel one. But since they've haven't distinguished on their records wheater its a diesel or petrol I can fit any engine under 1500cc, eg 14SRi, in it and still get it cheaper than a 15 Diesel. If i get a single point stuck in, I can fit an SRi later and only have to change the engine no's. No second engineers report needed because its the same size engine.

I was just saying it depends on who you talk to at mine, one person wanted a report the other just gave insurance at a good few quid cheaper than my last car...a 1.4.

And the car was registered 1.2 so I said it was a 1.8 and they said fine.

If you say you have a SR engine they will use the group for an SR, pricey, you have an engine from an astra though, find the cheapest group astra 1.4 (usually lowest trim level) in parkers guide and tell them it was from that.

Not in my case. Because Nova Vans didn't come in this form they'll just say thats its a 1.4, so thats 100cc's less than 1500 and just knock off a few quid. All they'll need is the engine number of whatever engines going in.

right my brother is buying my 1.4 sr off of me for his first car and he wants to swap the engine to a 1.2 nova engine or a 1.3 sr one.

what would he have to do about the insurance, whats an engineers report for, we'll do the conversion our-selves so what do you tell the insurance company, what do they need to now?

robb

Don't bother changing the motor, it is still an SR and will be high insurance group, end of.

The other way around however is completely the opposite .

Get him a 1.2 and he can do all the basic mods like bump strips and interior, he'll have more fun and keep him busy.

Thats not a bad idea and at least he'll have built his first Nova too. An engineers report is a document stating that the work you've had carried out meets certain standards and all new information has been documented, ie engine numbers.

to answer dod shams question to bring a 1.4spi astra engine up to sr spec then you'll need to,

dump the injection for the sr carb and inlet manifold and use the sr coil/dizzy setup

really if you want modded 1.4 use the 1.4spi block, and 1.2carb head or 1.4mpi head and then a webber 32/34 carb ontop will see a nice bit of power released for you

^^^ WTF

Erm, yeah I agree with the 1.2 on 1.4 block idea, and the carbs came off many things, just look around for one, then get an adapter if it don't have one for nova manifold. P.S. adapter would be direct from Webber.

a 1993 1.2 is going to be the single point injection, which is just about the worst engine you'll fin in a nova. The head on it is v. restictive in comparison to others.

Fit a 1.2 carb'd head to it aloing with a 1.3sr inlet manifold & exhaust manifold & cam, and you will see 15bhp+ gains. Thats 33% more.

Or you can fit a weber 32/34 DMTL with the above setup instead of the Standard pierburg found on the 1.3/1.4sr's to get more power.

You can also use the above head/inlet/exhaust setup on a 1.3sr block or 1.4sr block. Giving 6-9bhp every 100cc you go up in.

If you want to do it a bit more complicated you can use a 1.4mpi head (found on Nova sri's amongst other Vauxhalls), this will give you around 10% more power ontop (depending on how many of the above mods you do) if you match the ports properly.

There is also a guide in the FAQ section.

Aren't all 1400 blocks the same though?
