View Full Version : Fuel Gauge reading plus 1/4 of a tank!

my fuel gauge is reading plus 1/4 over! so when says i got 1/4 left its empty!



any ideas why and how to fix it?

2.0 16v started life as 1.2 diamond. not sure whats been uprated i.e fuel tank?

erm not sure.

you could take the sender unit out, and bend the bit of wire that the float is linked to down abit so it will read further. if you get what i mean. probably abit of a harsh way to do it. first thing that came to mah head. :oops:

can i not take out the gauge and take the needle off and put it at the right place! when i know how much is in there!

Yeah that sounds like a better idea. So does it read 1/4 tank even when empty?

does the dash needle drop to empty when you disconnect the sender unit?

sounds like a fecked sender if thats the case

yeah empty reading is 1/4 tank!

not tested that but when i turn the igntion off the gauge does go the the normal place as if it was normal! so by turning the igntion off i would get the same result as if i disconnected the sender unit?

If it is resting at 1/4 with no power then you need to resit the needle, removing the sender would set the signal to zero and the guage where it thinks zero is, in your case it is at 1/4 tank because the needle has been moved, has it had coloured dials put in?

he hasm't tried disconnecting sender yet so don't move the needle yet either till u tested that.
