errrrrr. we here at novaload love polos; think they are great cars mate. why on earth wud we tell ya that a nova is any good?

g40 is a nippy motor but try and find a good, unmolestered, reliable one.

plenty of tidy virgin nova 1.2 shells about. and xe's...

xe would be more tuneable SIMPLE...

but g40's are really, really nice, i wouldnt mind one, they seem quite rare though...

I have been in a JABBA sport prepared G40. Engine upgrades cost about ?1500. My valver wouldnt have stood a chance one bit. If you had plenty of money to throw at one I would go for the G40, as they are so easy to tune, but you dont loose the driveablity. They are lighter than a valver nova, cheaper tax and cheaper insurance I would expect.

*waits for abuse and comments like drop in a LET*

Chris you fucking bastard twatface arsehole

drop in a LET

Chris

drop in a LET

and for the price it costs for a LET and once it is fitted properly you could have a G40 just as fast which is much more driveable.

chris to be fair you did say you were waiting for abuse

but that abuse doesnt make sense though. I was more meaning abuse like dont get german crap etc

Chris

Nick
20-10-04, 08:28 PM
why the hell would you buy german crap !

Mike.
20-10-04, 08:28 PM
lol @ german crap
any way i've always liked the polo g40 there very nice cars, but i like the nova just as much

Nick
20-10-04, 08:31 PM
personally, i've allways thought the Polo has allways been a little out of proportion in terms of it's design. bit of a Funny car , allways is and has been.

They do look nice with badboy bonnets, subtle styling, lowered, nice wheels. And i've heard the G40's are quick for what they are.

Nick
20-10-04, 08:35 PM
but then again, i've allways been a bit dubious about Small engined cars with turbo's/Superchargers on them. the R5GTT is a good example of how it didn't work very well.

then again, i've never really read into the G40

German crap? Last time i looked Vauxhall is a german orientated company.......and the novas were built in spain! The last time vauxhall was known as british they were building marine engines. [/quote]

Mike.
20-10-04, 08:44 PM
no one was saying anything about opel or vauxhall being german crap lol.
i prefer opels to vauxhalls, maybe its just the badge

Nick
20-10-04, 08:46 PM
no-one was even saying anything about german crap lol

It was another sarcastic comment, ffs

is Opel german !? i allways thought it was spanish

i think the opel basdge looks tacky, reminds me of Flash gordon.

Flash !

retrosi
20-10-04, 09:35 PM
true...think opel is german as head quarters are there...has factory in spain as well

Mike.
20-10-04, 09:49 PM
flash gordon

i'm sure opel is mainly german but they have cars in spain and other contries aswell

Nick
20-10-04, 09:49 PM
is your car supercharged ? or is that just your name !

don't knwo if i've seen a supercharged nova !

or why not get a nova and stick to a 8v lump, like a 1.4SR

after my 1.4SRT40 is build i'd hoping for roughly 135-140bhp. ( gotta aim high)

but that's gonna be with alot of work. Bottom end work, BB head e.t.c not gonna be cheap.

n it'l Go pretty fcking quickly ! handle well to.

a 1.4 to that spec will cost the same as a g40.

i would say to the nova would be more reliable and can get them to 200bhp with out spending silly money

your all tards

polog40 are slow as fuck ... a valver will walk all over it without even breaking sweat ... i owned a mk1 crx 1.6 16v and it pissed on a polog40 ...

a valver nova with an extra 30-40bhp on my old crx would wipe the floor with a g40, no questions asked :D ;)

Funny that, cos the R5 GTT in std. trim pisses all over standard nova GSI! It's only when you tune the GTT it becomes unreliable...

I'd still have a nova because that's my choice.....

OK but to valve-up a nova will cost ?1000 or thereabouts. If you bought a G40 and spent ?1000 on it you would get 180-200bhp and a far better handling car..... When I had my Nova i only just keep up wit a 130 BHP g40 around tight corners and roundabouts (but absolutely FUCKED him on the straights!LOL!!!) and I had 178BHP...... so I gave away 48bhp there!! but I'd STILL have the nova!!!!!!LOL!!!

Are you dreaming? I have one of the highest spec SR engines on the site and it will only be 110bhp tops. 135-140bhp is max power figures!

there was a guy at santa pod on sunday with a 1.4 8v saloon. He was running 14s. He had a stupid spec 1.4 8v not sure what he had done to it. Benji went an talked to him i think

Yeah, but its most likely a silly money engine, 6k+! As your basically doubleing the original power, something that takes ALOT of cash and is very hard to achieve.

Its just alot of people think you can bolt on 40's, polish your head and add a cam to an SR engine and get 140bhp, which is a bit of a dream. A 1600 with a good head, 40's and cam make's 140bhp, not an SR.

Keith

Stuart
21-10-04, 01:25 PM
im looking to double and then some the power of a std engine

but yes peopel are caught in the myth that 40's bit of suto sol and a mild cam will make loads of power.

to quote 100bhp/litre from NA is rather laughable at times as its one of the harder things to do in life while retaining a driveable car

Yes, because NA is always more tunable than forced induction :?

Get your facts right fella, and id go for the polo IMO, lot less common, looks nice decked on bbs rims, handle nice, tunable etc etc just try and find a decent one

I really dont get this opinion that R5 gtt's are unreliable, just because some knobbers turned the boost up without doing anything else they have an image of being unreliable!? :?

kinda like trying to lick your own asshole

Nick
21-10-04, 06:03 PM
well, i'm going to be spending a pretty silly amount of money on it.

trust me, i will get 130bhp.

i've currently got someone who builds and races F3 cars to help me put it alltogether, and seeing as the person in question owns a motorsport shop, i aint gonna be short for parts.

And no- the R5GTT maybe fast, but it was a f'cking unreliable engine.

Riggy
21-10-04, 06:14 PM
i always thought the r5gtt was a good engine it was just the electrics on the car that were dodgey lol i know of a few nice r5s leegsi off here for one :D
though i like his turbo nova better -pull your finger out mate and get it done :D

Chris
21-10-04, 06:20 PM
R5GTT's have problems with the head gaskets blowing alot, but as mentioned earlier in this thread, they are fine as standard, just when people whack the boost up to make them go fast they go wrong

Chris

Nick

Nope the engines in my opnion are unreliable, i'd never buy one jst because i don't think it's worth the hassle.

Well starting from now i've got my first ?500 which i'l get the rest of a complete 1.4SR engine together.

Then i'm looking at the best Head reaonable money (no more than ?600) can buy from Bill Blydenstein (or whatever his name is)

Then it's having a full rebuild which the F3 guy is doing. He know's his stuff so i'm letting him make the desicions on it.

T40's , no bodge job. Broos offered me his for ?600 but i think that's a little too steep.

Then Cam e.t.c

i got about ?800 a month to spend on it for this yr

see ya at pod next year then mate

to get 120bhp+ from an sr its gonna need to be revving up to 8k and beyond which means loads done to bottom end. And a stupid silly cam in there.

Stuart
22-10-04, 11:31 AM
9k is the goal ;)

Lmfao, have you owned one then? or just going on random people from other forums opinions??

and 800 quid is gonna get you nowhere near 140bhp out of a 1400...*maybe if it was an r5 gtt LOL!*

Philsutton

r5s are shit plus its not just the head gaskets on them that go the gearboxs are pretty poor on them as well, although i seem to go though my share of them

anyone know what rpm the standard 1400 rods and crank will take? i'm going for for power from mine soon. i know a guy who can do me a worked bottom end and a big valve head.
oversized forged pistons, knife edged and crank with new bearings. all lightened and balanced, heat treated rod's and crank (duno much about that but he said its good) baffelled sump and windage tray(again he suggested that)
as for the head, he will fit the bigger valves if i supply them, any ideas where i can get some from? will the 1600 ones fit?
should make nice power, not bothered how much as long as it beats a 16v clio down the strip

gearbox is first on the list though. f13cr with a 4.18 and maybe a quaife diff (i'll have to check the funds on that one)

dan, i have ?800 a month to spend on it for the next 12 months.

so no that doesn't add up to 800, it adds up to 8k ish./ of course i'm not gonna spend anywhere near like that.

think you need to go back and learn some maths mate

Ok, i need to learn maths, i think you need to get your head sorted if your spending that much on a brown 1400

Nick

lol brown.

think you need an eye test with the maths test.

Anyone who has seen it thinks it looks pretty damn good like it is.

And no, i'm probably going to stick a 2.0 in it and spend the money on insurance.
