Sorry mate, but if you are gonna do an engine conversion, you should definately tell your insurer..

No its not really tunable, its 60bhp, and it won't be much quicker than a 1.2 carb model as the engine is probably heavier.
It is a pretty slow engine as well, i should know as i have the same one in my mk3 astra.
And as Dan said don't swap the engine then insure it as a 1.2,its just pointless, and if if crash and cause damage to someone, then in simple terms you are screwed.
It ain't worth swapping the engine, just stick with the 1.2 until the insurance goes cheaper then get summit like an SR or SRI, thats a good 35bhp jump from 1.2i to SRI.

Is it the engine or injection system that causes a 1.4 to be so shit?

If so then slap it in and stick a carb on there, I have a 1.4 Pierburg carb and manifold .

i'd stay well clear of single point injection engines

The injection, if you just wacked on a carb then it would basically be a 1400SR engine.

you might aswell go for twin 40's then if your converting it to carbs?

If it is the injection system then RIP it off and slap a carb in there. Is there no difference in the stroke/bore etc?

I have a pierburg and manifold if stan wants it, or have Ste's whole engine

i had a 1.4i merit plus which i shoved a 1.4sr cam in it and a induction kit gave it quite a bit more power but it was a bit slugish on the bottom end but after bout 4000rpm she picked up n was a little pocket rocket

I'm thinking on using a 1.4 Astra single point engine in my 1200sx, is it a handy fit? What about sticking a 1.6 Cavalier carb on it then, would that help any?

the astra 1400i will be the same as the nova or near as damn it. Will fit straight in. thing is though if i were going to upgrade to a 1400 i'd go for sr or sri one as the 1.4i is lacking power as well

Is that because of different internals, i.e. longer stroke, diff cam, head shape?

If not then you could always slap carbs on there :D .

Yeah but Sr and Sri's are rare about these parts. 1400i Astra unit'd do until i got one. Would the Cav 16 carb help?

Cav 16? or Cav 1.6L, yeah I would imagine it will run but use a lot of fuel and idle badly, you would need to set it up for the motor i.e. change jets and all sorts.

Slap it on, no harm in that is there? If it don't work get a 1.4 carb.

(anyone watching this post what other cars had 32/34DTMLs on??)
