Rang to see if i could get hold of an Engine lift tonight, since its my first day off in 2 weeks. No joy :(

So me and my dad thought, how hard can it be without? So we got to work! The car's had the tie bars etc all stripped off for a few weeks now, so at least that saved us some time. We jacked it up high, slid the engine underneath. Then Lowered the car right down to the ground, leaveing us just 1" to lift the engine on each corner.

Lifted up each corner and attached the mounts, sorted :D Only took 35 mins in total, and things are finally starting to take shape! I'm up early tomorrow to start re-fitting the running gear. Just have to wait now for my silicone hoses and Janspeed manifold and were ready to rock :D

Not a single scrape! and only took 30 mins!

It's the first time ive ever fitted an engine, so i've no idea if it would have been quicker with a lift!

Looking very nice there Keith. Before I had fitted an engine from underneath I thought it would be more hasstle than it was worth until the other week when I was breaking an SR and srtipped the lot (running gear, engine and box) in about an hour, but that was with the aid of a newly fitted 2-post ramp lol

At a guess he will want more when the insurance comes down

I could see a nice 2L turbo install under there! I remember how well andys looked with the standard body with a mental engine. Though the down side with a tubo is it would hide most of your hard work on the chassis legs.

I will shut up shall i.

Cheers Karl, Dont think i scratched it once. Some of the finishing down low on my bay isnt the best, but i must say it does look good with the engine fitted.

I'll be using the car as much as i can, so i dont expect it to be concourse, but will still be a tidy example.

Roll on the Nurenburg trip :D

Bit more work today. Fitted the front end back on, along with all suspension, antiroll bar etc etc. New clutch cable, and adjusted it. Re-fitted my brakes and set the car back on its feet. First time its been low since december 2002 when i stripped it! I'm starting to get excited now, i've got most bits on order, and it should be up and running by next month (when i can afford to buy the fuel pump/regulator)

Few more pics!

True mate, it should go everybit as well as a STD 1.6 16v, and sound great. And it looks nice and at home in the bay!

I probably will 16v/turbo it in a few years, but for now i'm as happy as a pig in shite :D

Niiiiice, looking good mate - Coming together nicely. The best bit is building it all up when you have all the bits!

What did you do the gearbox with mate :P

Mart

Cleaned it up with wire wool, and a drill bit, with some autosol. then i finished it off with some silver high temperature paint.

Came out ok, paint finish is good, but the box is covered in little alloy pit's and doesnt look as smooth as i'd have liked!
