Ive got part of my student loan (just over a grand) to spend on my car.

The problem is its only a 1l. Should i start with a new car a 1.4sri and do that up or buy a partly modified car or add to the the car i got? The car ive currnetly got is under my profile. its begining to show rust.

use your student loan on being a student, not on your car. fecken students, no wonder i have to pay so much tax every week. :D

Student loans do have to be paid back (hence the word LOAN)-so in the long run he would actually be spending his own money.

Lets not get out of hand with this one.

There are various other things that students bring with them that need extra funding to run, for starters there is a big increase in sewage waste etc..

Ok so there are thousand of so students moving into the cities, wether it be from cities or the country they are adding to the sewage waste output which needs bigger facilities and more workers to cope with it, or they just pump the overflow into the sea (more likely).

You mean thousands of students all going to different cities-i.e some leaving and some coming-so a balance!!!

Anyway, i agree student loans should really be spent on more productive things (such as me paying about ?100 for 3 books!!) but if you've got some spare then why not spend it on good stuff-car, going out etc. Afterall, in 3 or 4 years time a debt of about 8k-12k would have built up, which is not so fun!!

Want some free advice?!

Dont spend your student loan on your car! I did.....and it was the biggest mistake I could've made!

Get it....put it into an ISA savings account....and have a job.
Spend your wages on the car + living costs.
Dip into the ISA when you REALLY have to to cover things like food and clothes + supplies.

Come the end of your studentship...if you've done this all the way through, you'll have a nice little lump sum in your account with which to rent a flat, or buy a new car, or get your car dont to the nth degree (make it a treat for yourself)

But for the love of god...dont spend your loan the second it comes in on your car!

here here

i only just managed through uni by the skin of me nads with the student loan and work during summers

the only money i spent on my car was ESSENTIAL maintenece such as brakes and MOT's etc

its very very hard to live sensibly as a student since you wil be out most nights on the lash (well for the first month you will be) food, other fun things you might want and so on

only spend it on your car if you really think you can make it to january without being screwed into the ground financially.

trust me you will buy lots of toot like hifi's. new TV's and so on. oh yeah and food is pretty important too lol

Well, im a student, at my local college, and have NO loans OR financial support, i know how hard it is to make money last.

my job around college hours is not enough, and with the money i get, i dont even buy have to bu my own food/pay living costs. I'm driving around a part modded shed of a nova, because its not practical for me as a student to drive anything more. (cant afford anything more).

Keep the loan for the purpose its there for..your student costs. a car is a luxury for most students, so be grateful that you've at least got one to drive.
