Due to the problems I have had with my 2.0l 8v engine, a ful oil change is next on my list of DO's !

I am going to stick Slick 50 in there as well, but I want to know is there anything I can buy that will sort of flush/clean the engine out. Like you can buy a flush for yur coolant system. ??

Also what oil would you reccomend to fill it back up with. I have run Mobil 1 in the past and been told that it is too rich for some engines. What would be best to stick in it ?

the engine is from a 1986 Cav.

You can buy engine flush from most car shops, I think a company called Wynns (or something like that), make one for about ?5.. but im sure there are others.. As for the oil, what about some Castrol GTX Magnatec, or Duckhams hypergrade is good (apparently!):-/ .

This is wot I have deduced:
1. There's a lot of bollox spoken about oils.
2. Most oils are fine for most engines. Best thing is to change more regularly (5-6000 miles)
3. Synthetics are better from the point of view of remaining more stable at higher temps and harsh working conditions. They are lighter and tend to help protect engines on startup.
4. In older/ more worn less tuned engines it may not be worth using synthetics as the benefits are less and they tend to drink the stuff as it escapes up the bores and leaks from all over.

My local MDC shop said to use semi synthetic for my GSi ...Castrol Magnatec.
Thought I'd add that in, but what CP says is right, just change it more regularly.

Read the thickness of it ...in 00/40D or whatever that means!
