i am having problems with my xe engine.
it came from a j (91) cav gsi.

things i have done.
new cam belt, so timming is spot on.
plus rollers and water pump.
new cold thermostat switch today.
redex in engine incase it's junk in engine.
checked the cold start sensor, its not jammed etc.
checked the manifold sensor, seems ok but aint replaced.

can anyone suggest anything that i might have over looked.

thanks

might be the ECU? my ecu on mine got rather wet when it rained once an since then mine has over fueled

good idea, as the ecu is close to the engine, the warmth might be damageing it

Did you sort out the multiple air leaks Sean?
Mine is still eaking air, after much faffing about and the fuelling is awful, and it is running like its on 3!!

no, still waiting on ben to send the parts for me.

duck tape is the fiuture of cowboy mods.

other symptems if this helps any more.

when you floor it from cold, it jumps around if you were a learner about to stall.
then it goes bang, whoosh your off.
change gear same again.
5th gear feels flat too.

Do XEs have the lambda sensor in, could be on its way out, sending ecu wrong info, and its then throwing more fuel in.
Have you took your plugs out, are the sooty black.

Probably an air leak though.

seans does not have a lambda sensor!! so its not that, im so puzzled by this :?: it could still br the air leak. when i seen the engine i did notice that the ecu was in a strange place. was it like on top of the gearbox??

The ECU on seans car was mounted in the engine bay as his plans were to put the car on carbs rather soon after being fitted, so there would be no holes in the bulk head once the injection system had been removed, the ECU couldnt go behind the battery because of additional wiring for his ICE and alarm (i think).

i am more then happy that no air is getting in.

the sheer amount of duck tape been used is well, excessive.
