my car needs a sump gasket, after removing the sump today i noticed that there is a metal plate that goese between the sump and the engine block, but i have only got one gasket , does this metal plate need to be put back in becuase it appears to do nothing.

Thats a baffle/splash plate and you need it to stop the oil splash. So you do need two gaskets.

I know that there important but im unsure as to what exactly would happen if it was removed. Im sure someone will tell us though, as I would also like to know.

i also noticed my 1600 had one when i was stripping it!! its some sort of baffle to stop oil starvation. i will be putting mine back on, for the price of another sump gasket lol!! :roll:
