View Full Version : Creaking noise coming from Manifold area
There is a creaking noise coming from somewhere down near my manifold on the exhuast area. If i go over a bump, accelerate ,m brake, or just give the engine some revs i can just hear creaking rattley sound . and if i kick my back box the same noise can be heard !
i thought it may be those spring bolts that attach the downpipe to the manifold !?
the exhuast has been taken off and put back on a couple of times so i don't think it's the actual exhaust !
cheers

have got a heat shield for the plugs? if so its probably rotted away on one of the support bolts holding it, causing the rattle

i get the same thing mate, but only if im in too high a gear - like when im doing just under 30mph in 4th gear the exhaust manifold area starts to make a creaking noise, until i drop it down a gear then its fine.
I have looked into it myself and cannot see what is causing it, my old exhaust system used to do the same as well. Yours sounds a bit different though - mine doesnt do it over bumps or when accelerating - i do get it when i bang the backbox though..
try doing the bolts up abit more from the downpipe to the manifold, it sounds like the springs on there are creaking
hmm yer
Well i'l try squirting a loada WD40 on the spring bolts and see if it stops it, then give em a tighten too.
I guess it's not a good idea to remove the Heatshield off the manifold !? would this cause the Spark plugs/leads to deteriorate or under perform !?
but the only thing it looks like it's doing is provuding a hot air feed to the airbox, which i don't have on the car anymore !
