1.4 Vs 1.9Turbo Diesel?

I'm lookin for a new car and i wud like to no whether i shud get a 1.4 petrol engine or a 1.9 turbo diesel engine. I rekon that a 1.4 petrol wud provide better performance but wot kinda performance am i lookin at in a 1.9 turbo diesel? Plus, are there many diesel parts available i.e induction kits, filters, exhausts? Any help wud be much appreciated.

PS. As you can gather from the question i may not be getin a nova next but please help me out as a current nova owner. Cheers.

id say the 1.9 td has alot more power actually and so much torque and so easy to tune aswell

1.9 td's are quick. they a little slow off the mark but a lot faster than a 1.4 petrol once you got it in 2nd and 3rd gear

i raced a 1.9td 306 down the motorway on the way to santa pod once when i had my 1400 an i beat it top end but only just. Then again it wasnt a standard engine

MY MATE USED TO HAVE A 1.9TD 306. I'D ALWAYS BEAT HIM OFF THE MARK BUT HE'D CATCH ME IN SECOND AND BEAT ME IN THIRD. I'M FASTER NOW I GOT MY T40'S THOUGH!!!

i have a friend with a xsara 2.0 hdi and my mildy tuned sri managed to keep up with him admirably!
i found the biggest thing you miss with diesel is the good throttle response
