Can a 1.6 16v head be bolted onto a 1.6 8v bottom end?

Im assuming theres alot more work than just that, but im looking at it as simple as possible...

Bare in mind that the bottom end has been bored out to 1650 with bigger pistons etc etc...

Just a passing thought.... :D

The blocks are the same as the 8v equivelants, BUT the pistons etc are different.

Can you elaborate on this please?

the pistons will have the 4 valve cut outs as opposed to the 2 cutouts you normally have

the cam drive train needs changing for all the 16V kit etc its a fiddly business but doable as probed by dicko, CP and probably some others that converted the 8-16V (i shall be trying my hand at this next year too)

So basically it is the best route to get the head, loom ECU and cam belt fittings and to rebuild your own 1.6 bottom end (as customary to create a good base to tune on) with the 16v pistons and have all work done in one, then just mate all the 16v bits and head to your reebuilt bottom end.

Or better to get a complete 1.6 and do the work then?

its easier to get a 16V bottom end to being with as you need crank sensor and the like, but if your feeling adventurious then there is no reason not to
