Hi guys, posting on behalf of a friend who has no Inet access.

He was just wondering if a 1.8 8v Injection engine from a Cav would be a straight swap for his nova GSi engine? and would it work with his GSi gearbox/drivehsafts?

Would the bay need welding up like a 2.0l conversion?
What are the power outputs of a 1.8?

Thanks very much for help in advance.

the 1.8 is a big block engine has far as i no and will need the same work as to fit a 2lt. They dont make that much power either as standard just over 100bhp. He might be better off going for 2lt 8v

i also think that its just over 100bhp. so tell him there is not much point in fitting it and taking the 1600 out!! unless the 1600 is broke. alot of weight for not much/any gain.

Cav 1.8 8v's are 90BHP!!

Yeah they are crap, I had one with my shell when I bought it.

Fu*ked it in a week.

If you need to know the drivers side mount need rewelding in about 2inch lower, and there is a bit on the engine that will rub on the drivers driveshaft so grind this off and an F10 box will fit You will see if you do the conv. I would imagine the full loom and ECU would be needed to run the cav MPi, same as wiring a GSi into a 1.2 lol. Better still run it on carbs.

ummm, he might be best going for the 2.0 8v then. Are these out of Cav sri130s? and astra sri's?

cheers

the 1.8 will have quite a bit more torque though i'd imagine than the 1.6.

Looking back compared to the GSi motor in there now:

It feels the same torque accell (1.8 ran on the smaller 1.4 fly, more responsive less torque)

It handles better due to less weight in front, I have std -40 kit designed for normal weights

Better on fuel

Doesn't burn any oil now. lol

put the 2l 8v 130bhp in there using a f13 box to take the extra power or stick with 1.6, or a 2l 16v or the 1.6 16v. Or gut the thing and use a rover turbo 4x4.

If you can find the right 1.8i engine then you should have 118bhp. It needs to be the same as fitted to early mk2 Astra GTE's. It will be torquey.

I would advise against it as you'll be carrying an extra 50kg at least. I would either stick with the 1600 small block or find at a minimum an SRi 130 lump (some of these were also fitted to the very first 2.0 mk2 astra GTE's, after that they were down on power and torque).

Off topic: the ultimate conversion would have to be a small block 1.8 16v on TB's.

is that found in the newer compact vauxhalls? like the Corsa C and Tigra?

What were the small block 1.8s fitted to? I never come across one, sounds like a good idea anyway.

I believe the latest Corsa has them. Would run it on TB's as the immobiliser would be a pig. Either that or use the standard induction with DTA management.

ok mc, would be worth looking out for but im sure it would be an expensive engine as it would be brand new!! its a very good idea, basically the combo of all the best bits of the other vauxhall engines.
