i do alot of motor way drivin in my nova 1.2i fun, after its been runin for a while say 25 30 mins and i come off the motor way n do normal road driving where gear changing stoping starting etc is involved the car ocasionally backfires, its just recently started to do it more and iv now noticed the rev counter ocasionally stick for a brief second.

iv been told this is the head gasket is this rite cos i thought it was an air leek in manifold that causes backfire??

its due for mot soon n wana get it sorted before it costs a bomb

Head gasket symptoms are generally high temperature and steam coming out of the exhaust (white smoke). Mine went twice and never had any back firing etc.

I would look more towards the timing side of things. Try getting a mobile tune up to come out to it, that shouldnt cost too much
