Since the mornings have started getting colder, my car hasnt been running right and im wondering if this is the effect of carb icing..

Basically the car will not idle on cold mornings, the engine will just die, and sometimes when changing up/down gears on cold mornings it will lurch badly.

I wouldnt have thought it was cold enough for carb icing yet, but since it only happens in the mornings it must be yeh??

nick your moms hover pipe and cut it down and run it from the manifold onto the front of the filter

yeh i was thinking about rigging up some sort of hot air feed...

I would suggest refitting your original airbox to see if this afects the fault

carb icing has very little to do with the weather, although obviously worse when cold.
Its because the engine is sucking,
How can i explain?
Put petrol on your hand, now blow at your hand, its damn cold aint it?
Now imagine the force an engine sucks at,voila carb iceing.

Well the weather obviously effects then, cus if the air temp is 20degrees then it is gonna take a lot of cold air to freeze, but if the temp is 3degrees then it is gonna freeze.

I just said that the temp affects it,just not as much as people think, carb iceing can happen on a warm day.
It depends on loads of things, carb size, choke size, jet size, type of air filter, type and size of engine, ambient air temp,i.e. loads of things.
This is why alot of old carb engines had the pancake style air filters, they included a tube that drew warm air from just above the exhaust manifold, there is usually different settings for different times of year,i.e.different ambient air temps.

They sell universal stuff at Halfrauds, it's like 3quid, and would be more than long enough to stretch from your manifold to carbs......Get some of that and just plumb it round to your carbs.

Also...if you can be bothered with the effort......stick something between the engine and front panel, will stop a lot of cold air getting into the bay, and consequently you'll run hotter....thus better in the winter.....I've seen all sorts of kit car drivers doing it with good results.

(i'm actually building mounting points into my engine bay to mount such things with much more ease come winter. This includes plates under the bonnet vent/scoops + for the front panel, as well as something to clip onto the manifold and come round to the airbox that will shortly be sitting in my bulkhead.)
