I'm intrested, my 1.6 16v ran a 16.8 at the pod yesterday which TBH I'm not impressed with, I've seen this engine in Corsas (standard) run simular times and they weigh a lot more.

What sort of times are you guys getting in your 1.6 8v's & 1.6 16vs (whatever state of tune)

Cheers

my best was a 16.2 from a 1.6 8v which is standard as far as we know

:? Thats not too good at all mate... My GTE with just a K&N and Exhaust ran a 16.0 dead! Yours should be running that at least! Have you got loads of ICE? Or Huge wheels or something that might of hindered you?

yeh mate you should be running a better time than that. as neil says a gte should run about a 16 - 16.4.

lets us know what you were running eg tyres and wheels and weight.

16 inch speedlines, stripped out interior, 2 buckets, 2 speakers

Nothing that should slow me down to be honest.

Unless my concerns are correct in that I am running a SPi pump, but then I had a very good race with a Nova GSi on Friday night off the lights and along a straight stretch of road, 1st then 2nd and towards the end 2nd I was getting away, 3rd he was gone.

So the pump must be correct.

Simon who had a bog standard C16 XE in his fairly standard car ran a 14.89 IIRC and that was his first ever try @ 1/4 miling.

I doubt this VERY much.

15.89 is achievable, 14.89 is C20LET times.

talk of the devil and he shall appear lol.

times as per my signature.

As for 1.6 16v's, i have raced one that was standard and he did a 15.7 (pv03), dec burke ran 15.6/15.7 with his when it was standard. With The 165 kit on his dec then went on to run 14.7 or so as i remember. fastest to date is miles who ran 14 deads but a good amount of work had been done to that

The 1.6 8v's when in full trim etc etc etc are looking at low 17's, very high 16's when standard

more practice needed mate. i ran crap times all day sunday with 16.2 being my best. don't let it bother you, try again next year when it's not so damp and windy and i'm sure the times will come down

Dan
20-09-04, 05:30 PM
just checked me slips, the one where i raced si@novaheaven at pv03 he ran a 15.978

The best I've run is 14.98. Thats an SRi with full interior, 16" Speedlines, oh and a 1.6 16v on Throttle Bodies.

Oh should say that the engine internals are standard (bar ARP's) and I'm still running a factory exhaust manifold.

I raced a boggo Corsa GSi and he ran a 17 seconds dead....

I ran a 14.2 in my 1.6 turbo with 15's two front seats and full cage

Dan

looks like these turbo boys will have to wind up their boost if i get my way muhahahaha

 Dan the only way to go any faster with yours is to let someone who weighs much less drive the car for you... you know anyone?

Dan
20-09-04, 08:50 PM
pmsl, just remember, the shell is just a 500 quid special, nowt fancy. The overall scope for things that can be improved is massive.

Whether or not i will bother is another matter as the car stands to prove a point, which it does, and is also track based rather than just for pod hence all the welding and the cage etc.

Anyways, you never heard of remote control

I've always wanted to do a remote controlled nova... time, money and knowledge get in the way though :( Anyway, back to topic...

Best time for my car when it had a bog standard 1.6 8v in was 16.2secs running full interior and Speedlines.

Si's boggo 1.6 16v ran a 15.69 (best) and 15.9 (worst)

You must need practice mate, that really is a poor time.

I ran 15.28 in March last year. Thats a 1.6 on twin 40's.

At what revs are you pulling away at? First of all I pulled away at 1500rpm and it span for ages and I got a 17.2

Second run I pulled away at idle and got the 16.8.

NovaNeil
22-09-04, 12:37 PM
Crickey!!!! No wonder :o

I hold the revs at about 4000rpm then feed the power in with the clutch. Last thing you want to do is pull away at idle!

I think we're found your problem......

Oh and my 1.6 8v Turbo runs 14.1 (Which will never be caught by any of you NA 1.6 8v boys  hey dan)

but it WILL be beaten by 1.6 16v N/A. current P.B 14.3 but the car was blowin oil out the back and wasn't set-up.

Ojc
22-09-04, 12:53 PM
Right, I need to get back up the Pod ASAP then

Will try different techniques, 3k pull away, 4k pull away etc etc

Would be happy with a 15.9 indeed.

I ran a 16.29 with k&n + sebring backbox, full interior, seems an average time for a more or less std 1.6 8v.

BigRuss...where are you mate?

 :)

Dan
22-09-04, 05:42 PM
lmao, i wouldnt be to sure of myself  :P

On a serious note, neil i 'have' to launch @ virtual idle and feather the spin out even from that low. Its all personal preference but my ideal way is to launch the same as i do out on the open road, its worked almost everytime for me

NovaNeil
22-09-04, 07:11 PM
All this talk of 1/4 mile is wetting my appetite for another Run Wot Ya Brung :D . I really enjoyed that Roybacer v Novaload one. Its great going against people you know and settling a few scores. I look forward to the next one! I dare say it will be next year now though......?

And the 1.6 8v will be crepping ever closer to 14 dead. Also a nice little 1.2 8v may be surprising some people im led to believe

Dan im well impressed if you say you start as you do! Thats awesome. All the times i've tried that I just bog down or get massive amounts of torque spinning the wheels. On lower powered cars i've tended to hold the revs very high and feed the clutch in slowly. Nothing else has ever worked. I will have to experiment futher.

Neil

Dan
22-09-04, 07:44 PM
yup tis true neil,

http://www.slimjimkelly.btinternet.co.uk/Vids/danvsgolf.MPG

you can hear i use the full range of revs from the word go, although i do have no option but to feather the throttle rather than clutch due to having the 4 paddle variety

also i have no clue what other engines have, but 'allegedly' i have 100lbft by 2.5k rpm followed by 120lbft by 3krpm and climbing smoothly after that upto 133 so launching after anything much more than tickover would equal in spintastic with mine.

And the 1.2 8v will certainly turn a few heads

Stuart

whos building a 1.2? thats a fcuking stupid idea!!!

put a valver in there instead

HHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

You really shouldn't make statements like that, You might end up eating your words

NovaNeil
23-09-04, 12:27 PM
Ha Ha, I will gladly eat my words!!!! :D If an NA 1.6 8v Gets below that time (without NOS  ) I will have massive respect for the Person who builds it! Personally I think Dans is an absolutely amazing achievement already! and theres no doubt that with a diff it will go quicker still. But nearly 1/2 sec is a long time in 1/4mile terms......
but if anyone can do it it should be you Russ! Especially After seeing your performance at Trax!!! Your car is Awesome!

Who are the other contenders for next years sub 15sec 1.6 8v 1/4miles?

It'll be cool to get some more of these kicking Valver Ass!!!!!! How needs the extra CC's anyway.

Just stick a blower on instead

oh yeah just to point out, that 14.2 i ran was with a completely standard gte engine with just a t3 bolted on. It also had a cracked piston and the oil seals were hangin out of the turbo! Fuck knows how it even made it to the pod for pv04 nevermind the 14.2 it ran!!
