View Full Version : Does this effect fuel consumption.......?

When I think about it, fitting a K&N Bolt-on to a 1.3 is allowing more air into the engine, therefore making the engine burn fuel more efficiently, making your car more economical?

Is this true, or does fitting a K&N (without fitting a bigger jet) suck more petrol?

Cheers :?

On a carb'ed engine Chris is spot on, with a injection engine then the AFM adjusts the air/fuel mixture if more air comes in so you'd probably use a tad more petrol but you get a tiny hike in responsivness and maybe power.

thanks you people. Think about it, you are still running the same jets/ fuel pressure etc, so you are still only putting the same amount of fuel in, so mpg will be the same, whereas has Jules has said a fuel injected car will use more due to ecu compensating for the extra air coming in. Although the carb'd model will use more fuel if you have it setup for the filter (as it says in the instructions with k&n filters) but if you dont adjust it then it wont
