well i desided to rebuild my engine last week due to it was smoking when started up in the morning and it wasnt presurising at all so i thought id start with valve stem seals and then do my sump gasket not a good idea been as i was still stoned and lagging from the night before well i wasnt happy anyway when i finished the job so i knew somthink was gonna go tits up well it started and sounds sweet but it smokes worst than eva i also think the heads on its way out it looked pourous to me but i just slapped it back together not giving a monkeys please shoot me
do you think its worth just buying a second hand engine if i do ill be sure to be in the right frame of mine when i do it

When did you find all that crap in the pick up?
That wouldnt cause it to smoke anyway. what colour is the smoke. ALL cars smoke a bit when cold. Its called condensation.
silicone by itself wont cause much damage
and maybe working on the car while under the influenece of drugs or alcohol is a BAD idea

narr its burning oil white and it stinks i know its the stem seals but i dont know weather to re do it due to the heads might be fucked
im thinking second hand engine off ebay and mint it up while i have the time

thats why i think the heads gone just under the dizzy where the water pipe gos into the side of the head the alloy is all rotted and pourous but only on the end

If your a mechanic then imo you should use the money you were going to spend on a new engine, to rebuild yours, if your worried about the head you could pick a second hand one up for about ?50
If you buy another engine then it could be just as fucked as yours and your be back were you started.

i was planing on buying an engine and minting it up total rebuild the lot i carnt do that on the engine in at the moment due to i carnt do without the car id prefere to take my time rebuilding it also
gd plan mutant get a new lump and completely rebuild it make a nice mint reliable engine, and i sed it looks ok didnt say use the head gasket did i, i would never use one again anyway

mind you you can buy suposedly re-usable head gaskets now!!! not sure id trust em personnelly
save up some money an buy a coscast head least you know you'll have a good head then do a complete re-build of engine

And white smoke isnt oil burning, its usually blue.
Wills 1.6 "rally" engine smoked like a mofo and that was bore wear, smoke was white (novel) but only ubder load. at idle it was fine!
i too question your mechnic status as to fully identify a porus head you need it pressure tested
a rebuild wouldnt be a bad thing, so get a cheap nasty 2L 8V or even drop back to a small blacok to keep the car moving until you get your existing XE rebuilt (PROPERLY AND NOT UNDER THE INFLUENCE!!!)
or get someone who will do it right to rebuild it

never really seen a pourus head yet but i kinda know what isnt normal i just dont know what you call it the tube that comes out the side of the head which the water pipe gos onto that is all rusted and fucked
and as for the smoke i didnt really look what shade colour it was it looked white from the rear view mirror
but then the head face was ok the alloy didnt have anythink unusual

qualifications dont mean shit!!!! theres a lad at work called chris hes bin on his apprenticeship for just under two years and he doesnt even know what a main jet is. i laughed my head off when he asked what it was, still its only cos he just plugs a computer in and it tells him what to do he ent got a clue how to do real mechanics

However, some are more useful than others
bungle (oops burgo), to be fair in this day an age with most new vehicles being pcm controlled (thats powertrain control module) its understandable that a "new" person on the scene wont be likely to encounter carbs and distributors etc as they are becoming obsolete with the injection systems becoming widespread.
granted if you wish to be a "good" mechanic then a varied knowledge of BOTH systems is needed.
and a C&G may not be "worth" much but its still a qualification.
but claiming to be a mechanic and then stating that a rusty water pipe/gallery constitutes a porus head then you have a bit to learn still.
when out in germany i was employed as a mechanic, yet i NEVER reffered to myself as one because im not and probably never will be. just a keen amature.

Correct me if I'm wrong yeah......
but doesn't oil burn blue-ish smoke, and water burns white smoke! Which would then indicate you've got a problem with coolant getting into the combustion chambers/head......
Just a stab in the dark. :roll:

i was just trying to state that i know what im doing but due to my neck isnt really that long to reach all the way around the car while reving it i carnt really see what colour the smoke it is i dair ask my bird to rev it for me due to its like trying to get blood out of a stone but anyway i know whats wrong with it i dont need to prove myself to you lot i do engine work alday long at work i know whats normal an whats not i just put it down to being big headed at the time and off my face wasnt the best of ideas so boo hoo :? :? :o :o :D :D
