View Full Version : What run around car does everyone have?

Well its come to that time again where i need to start looking for a car to drive around over winter, due to the nova not having heaters an quite a lot of other things. Last year i had 1.6 lazer capri and a old 3 series bmw. I need some thats going to be gentle on insurance, what is everyone else paying for crappy? As i think paying nearly a grand for a ?23 pound is stupid.

I have got a 1.0ltr Polo Coupe that I use for running about in. Can beat it, starts every time, it also has cruise control on the motorway but only works at 85mph

"french shit" 106 diesel..

impeccably reliable still after 130,000 ish miles and v economical too.. Will cruise at 80+mph on bypass without thinking about it....

insurance is a none too dear ?520f/c (24 zero NCD)

xe nova. oh thats my only car lol

but i hear what you are saying phil. i need to lookinto getting another car for the winter, maybe not this year as road tax is due at end of the month. and i want to run out all the problems with the car and finish the install off.

so next year, run around car.

Gotta Silk Violet Gsi as a run around at the mo.
when ive got a LSD for me F28 the turbo engine will be going in, and i'll have my 1.7TD cav as a run around.
done 160k, the oil's like black treacle and its mucky as fap, still a good runner though

not so much a run about but more of my "normal" car
Omega Elite 3.0 V6 :) lovely and comfy, and seems nice and reliable for the abuse i give it

i could be tempted by way of a new ford focus if they bring the new one out with a nice lairy engine lol

My 'run about' is my daily drive pretty much all the time!
K plate Gsi, as seen at Trax. Mint body work except an arch and the engine/ride is one of the bset you can get from a Nova!

i have to say i do like my rear wheel drive cars, the sierra does sound like a good choice as i can pick them up for near to nothing. Like i said last time though i do like the old fords i.e capri, m2 escort, but i want something i can go to and start first time. I also like the idea of a big 240 volve estate but the insurance on one of those best is still rather high for what im after. Think i might go to the bargin place at the back of justnovas to see what they have in. I got my bmw from there for bout 100 with mot.

-Bruce-
14-09-04, 05:33 PM
yeh phil a 240 volvo would be smart!! or a seirra you know you want to

bruce

Philsutton
14-09-04, 05:36 PM
only thing with a sierra they have no class what so ever at least when i had my capri people seemed to love it, well i wouldnt go that far :D. Whats the smallest engine they do on the sierra is it a 1.6?

Stuart
14-09-04, 05:39 PM
i belive there are some early 1.3 sierras lol

Philsutton
14-09-04, 05:40 PM
oh dear thats quite sad, a 1.3 in a car that size. Bet it tops out about 50mph

-Bruce-
14-09-04, 05:48 PM
yeh they made 1.3 seirras!! lol imagine that and no PAS!!

but dont bother with a seirra unless its the 2.0 16v!! its slow but the rest are very slow!! eg 16. and 1.8 cvh!!

phil what do you mean " seirras have no class" im offended

try find a 2000e, they have leather heated seats all the toys and the 16v engine!!

bruce

Philsutton
14-09-04, 05:51 PM
well i dont know the capri just looks much better than the sierra, away i'll be going for the smaller engine one as i need as cheap insurance as possible. As long as i can get sideways in the wet i'll happy

-Bruce-
14-09-04, 06:04 PM
well if you just want sideways action in the wet then a 1.6 cvh will do!!

but see what a 1.8 pinto is like on insurance will be abit better. but saying that mines is ok insurance. and a saphire is needed not a hatch they are horid.

Rather heavily modified Renault 5 GT Turbo running approx 180bhp, hardly the most reliable or economical option for an everyday car but I hate driving standard cars. It is actually the reason the nova has been off the road for a year now as the modifying bug has bitten on the 5 unfortunately so the nova has been neglected.
