I think this is the chicken or the egg scenario.
The plants have been genetically modified so they do not contain seeds. Most are clones of each other as they are all grown from cuttings from a handful of original GM plants.

I thought it was done through selective breeding, not through genetic modification.

I think this is the chicken or the egg scenario.
A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face and the egg is frowning and looking put out. The egg mutters to no one in particular, "I guess we answered that question."
Obviously the chicken came first. Also, God would look silly sitting on an egg.

You just plant the grape, cos the grape is the seed of the original plant.
Did that at college today

Ever thought that the object of a seedless grape is consumption, rather than re-planting!? They grow on a grape vine, which is already planted.
