I really need to know!
Whats the timing setting on 1.2 tickover? Is it 9 BTDC or something else! Please!!! 8) 8) 8)
I will have the mechanic to help me on Saturday so need to know what to set it for!
I have sorted the knocking by putting 98 petrol in so basically timing was a bit too advanced so need to retard it a bit!
Cheers guys! 8)
Cambridge pls dont get mad at me!
Yeah that is what the mighty Haynes said for my GSi, I just set mine properly last nite and it pulls all the way through the rev range now, and better on fuel!

I guess it should not be different to 1.2 right?
I think it is actually the same for all models with a dizzy.
Just set it and see, I bet it's better than the guess you probably have on there now.
I think, but don't quote me that you should be around 5deg btdc for 95ron and 10deg for 98ron.
Ball park figures.

Doesnt seem to be right for the following reasons:
1. 98 has higher octane number which means it is more explosive, which means ignites and burnes quicker than 95.
2. If it has higher octane number it does not need to be ignated as early as 95.
Well as far as I can see if the numbers are correct it should be another way around...
Nope, Octane rating is the ability to resist pre-ignition/detonation. The higher the rating the better it is at resisting, allowing ignition to be advanced further before TDC.

Oh, :o OK then!
Fair enough...
So why the hell my engine is knocking when timing is set to 5 BTDC and when I put 98 then it stoped, well less noticable anyway!
Wiered!!!! :o

Because the higher octane rating means it isn't igniting so fast so it will be better. advance the timing and you'll probably notice it worsen again.

So this is a timing problem then!
Can it be an oil sender not doing its job properly, not delivering enough to the camshaft?
So back with 95 I should retard my timing to about 9 degree BTDC
