overheating?

Hi ppl,

I was running my motor up the other day and noticed that my digi dash was staying on only 2 bars on the temperature readout after about 30 mins of idleing, it seemed my engine was geting alot hotter than usual, so I took the fan switch out and put it in boiling water and the switch didnt make contact. Is this usual or should it come in alot earlier than that.
