don't like saxo's
Thats from someone who's driven the top of the range one in anger.
They have their good points and bad points. But not a car i'd buy. The 106 is a slightly better option as it doesn't depreciate as fast.

and saxos a rep of 17 years olds whos mommy got them the car on finance thinking its fab to have a fast car with a years insurance but not realising that they'll get stung once the year runs out. And come on how many moddified saxo's do you see? at least even a backwards weearing burbery cap'd 17 year old driving a 1.2 nova merit attempts to be slightly different from standard as soon as they get the car, be it ICE or styling. not many saxo vtr's are modified, come on the standard saxo wheels are sh@te.
my view. (and the vtr is slow. my 1.4 eats them.) if you have to go for a vts. very fast.

If you want one - get one - I know I wouldn't say no to a saxo, not a VTR tho, get a VTS! Being honest tho, say u won a saxo VTS, who would honestly swap it for a Nova, or anything else??

The VTR isnt the quickest car, but having owned one for a year now its also not the slowest.
A highly modded SR may well beat a standard one, but as far as new cars go - they do offer a lot for their money.
You get all the electric gadgets that are mostly extra on some smaller cars, and the way cars are going at the moment - it wont be long before the all round car comes out - too many curves and bubbles at present.
If you want a VTR, test drive it first, but look around and test other cars at the same time, theres no hurry is there? Wait until January when all the new designs start coming out like the new Polo etc, you might like that more.
I got one a saxo as my nova wasnt too reliable, and ive had bad experiences with three of them!
On the whole the nova is a good car, and its proved this because its lasted so long.
And no one can say anything to me about betraying novas, because Ive just got hold of a 1.3SR which my Dads business and myself is doing up as a 2litre show car to advertise the business and online styling store.
Anyway, both popular cars - says it all...
BUT....If your a youngster and you want to mod it on a budget, go for a nova - there are a lot more parts etc out for them, at cheaper prices and fitting them is easier, especially engine bits.

if ur gonna get a saxo, go for the new one, i've been for a look at the VTR, they've now got rear disks and an extra 10 bhp than the old ones, also meant to handle better. As for the VTS, the new one is only half a second quicker to 60, and about an extra 8mph, so buy the new vtr and superchip it and save loads on the insurance!!!!
Still far too much money though for wot they are!!

silly buying a new car mate. lunacy
running a car is only going to go up in price...
small cars that are cheap to run, cheap parts etc are the only way forward...
finance is stoooopid

My mate who did have vts until smash 2 weeks ago has been put off for life by the steering probs i mentioned above. He's now looking at a 306 s16 or Golf Vr6 but he says there's no way he'd ever drive a saxo again.

I have been considering a VTR,and my novas played me up big time lately, crossmember had given way,I bent one drive shaft(dont know how yet,but I no of an evil drain hole,in town K-( )then a day after sorting that, the radiator hose exploded, right outside the trendiest pub in town,in rush hour!-nice. In all honesty,I do not know what car I want,I still want a faster nova, but I quite like the look of vectras n corsas at the moment,I would love a 2l veccy saloon,in black wearing some 17s/18s-and the GSI kit, that would be nice in my opinion-but I have been considering a early 1.6 scooby impreza, but dont know the insurance,I just want one and to fit the STi kit on it...
I want some 15"s!
