I am going scapping this weekends and I was wondering if someone can help me and tell me what car shall I take brake disks from.
Is is Cav 16V or Astra 16V or what!?
Cheers
any 2.0l cav has the same brakes as an astra gte
personally i wouldnt use second hand discs as they could be warped or bolloxed if you do get second hand calipers make sure you strip em down and rebuild them sorting out warn bits ect

What do you recomend then Epo!?
What shall i do, I could go and buy new disks!
Can you tell me how and where do you mount them! Do I need to get something from scrappy to fit the disks on? I mean like a specific part?
Cheers
buy the discs brand new from a motor factors or summat or you could risk the scrappy discs but you cant tell if there warrped
get some 2.0l calipers strip them check the sliders fit new pads ect
this brake set up will not fit under 14" gsi alloys
There is a thing about rear disc conv. somewhere. That topbuzz site maybe?
You need the rear hub complete with discs and calipers I think, you will use the astra hub? on nova axle, redrilled bolt holes.
am sure you can buy rear conversion kits from somewhere like regal or courtney too

im sure you use the whole astra rear hub for the rear disks

Where shall I get one from then? And how is it all done? Do I have to cut the old one out or what? And the new one is it welded on or what?
I have seen the version where astra hubs are put on the nova beam, you have to redrill the holes to mount the hub to beam though! Also need to sort handbrake mechanism.
Just get an entire disc braked astra beam and hanbrake things if cheap enough. Tell scrappie to keep the shocks and bits u don't need to bring the price down.

Surely astra beam is not goint to fit nova?

i wont but if you get the whole beam then you can be sure you've got everything you need for the swap.

I see!
Aye as Phil said.....and just for the record:
astra hubs are put on the nova beam
sorry to be picky but you all seem a little confused here. the hub is part of the disc.
you need to grind off the backing plate from the nova beam (carefully!)
then either do the same with the cav/astra backing plate or make up your own, and line it up on the nova beam so that you can drill new holes, but making sure the bleed nipple will still be in the right place when you mount the caliper.
weld or clamp the astra/cav/diy plate to the beam and drill the holes. if you haven't done it carefully, and you've bent the mounting face of the beam removing the backing plates, your rear track will be wonky as fcuk.
bolt the astra/cav stub axles, backing plates etc to the nova beam, fit the disc and bearings, then fit the caliper and see if its all straight.
you will have to move the brake lines about a bit, best to make up new ones.
you can do it slightly differently regards the drillling and the plates etc but this is how I do it.
