bearings in the alternator mate. mine has been doing it for about a year.lol

just get a recon alternator and make sure you do all the bolts up nice and tight but dont overtighten the belt as the bearings will die quickly

it can also just be the old rubber belt making the noise.

replace that first (dont over tighten) as its the cheaper option and if it dosencure it then get a recon alt and you have your new belt ready :)

not really hard, just follow a haynes manual on how to do it. Shouldnt take you much more than an hour

can be a pain if its siezed in but id deffo try something first. take the belt of the alternator and start the car and see if the noise has gone. it deffo sounds like the noise mine makes and i know thats the alternator.

it mite be both?

bcoz my water pump moves bout wen u move it with ya hand so i no thats defo gone

if i take the belt off wont it mess up the timing?

dont remove the cam belt and start it :o

just the alternator (fan as they used to be called) belt. if the pump has gone you will have to remove the cam belt anyway. just make sure you line up the timing marks when it all goes back together

30 quid sounds ok to me mate. if you know what your doing its easy but if you have never attempted anything like this before its worth watching the mechanic too

if i remember correctly mr kahn has a 1 litre meaning he can take the belt off for the water pump as the cam is chain driven ;)
