Yep...every turn I take, It seems my car wants to drop dead and go to the big scrap yard in the sky.

After a LOT of welding last year, the car was SOLID!!! No rust anywhere. After replacing the battery tray a couple of months ago, I got a bit worried......

And then she failed her MOT yesterday.....so I had the carpet up this morning..and found:

Oh the Joy's!
Still....thank god it's a valencia built fester! If it was built in dagenham, the entire drivers footwell would be rotten through......so...I guess there's a brigt side to everything!

For the time being, I better whip out the welder! Maybe I should take this opportunity to seam weld all inside  Then when the engine comes out for the transplant, seam all that too! :D

:o Get it welded up mate, seems odd that its rotted that much in the space of a year.

The areas by the doors are notorious on mine for collecting water. I have resprayed and lacquered the whole interior to try and protect it. The water usually gets in by running through the pinched rubber seal were the door wire run through (it didn't originally have them) Could this be one way it is happening?

I'll tell you why it rotted so much inside a year.

In fords never ending inteligence, they made the sunroof drain into the sills. They then made little holes for the drainage pipes to channel out of the car.

When I got my car, the rear sills + arches were SO unbelievably beyond recognition that I didnt even stop to think about putting a new drain hole in there.....and all this while i've been meaning to get around to doing it...but havnt.

HOWEVER, these are VERY common places to rust in fiesta's....thats why replacement inner sills + floor pans are VERY cheap.....but what's happened is i've bascially accelerated the whole process by allowing the sunroof water to collect and stand in the sills! SO it's my own fault really!

I now gotta cut a load of metal off....weld some more in...then WAXOYL like there's no tomrrow!

A mate of mine in work has a 1986 Fiesta, 1.6D, left hand drive, with 26,000KM on the clock. From germany originally, hardly every driven!

He still had to replace the inner wings, but the rest is absolutely rust free! Great little car!

LMAO! Said it yourself already though "Start Again". I'd have to start from scratch...there's no such thing as a mint shell out there, so I'd have to weld any other shell regardless!
At least I know what's wrong with this one...and once this rot is done, I'm home free....just gotta get it re-tracked.

all i can say it CUT IT OUT AND WELD IT UP, and quickly too. just make sure you completely grind out all of it. dont want it happening again.

start by cutting allong the sides of the rust (about an inch or 2 wider) grind the paint off and paint it all with weld through zink primer. make a load of plates to fill the gaps (looks like a load of angle in ure case) then just weld the buggers in, when inside is done go outside and wax oil the crap out of it (or stone chip), then just finish off by making the shapes you need again for the sill (sometimes an idea to get the bits from the scrappy from a written off one, just cut the bits you need out) and weld the buggers on, make sure you treat everthing really well tho.

Once again luck is being used as a scapegoat for someone refusing to take responsibility for their own acts or omissions. I am not happy about that. At all.
