Have installed an X16XEL into the Nova and finally got it all MOT'd and running!
Haven driven a massive 30 miles on a virtually brand new engine and all WAS good!

It ticks over great, but as soon as you pull off it loses all power and struggles and pops until you hit 3000 rpm then it LURCHES into life!!

Its also completely random, and does it mainly when its warmed up.

I have swapped the temp sender, lambda sensor, injectors and crank sensor.

Any ideas?

Hi Will,

Sorry to hear you having problems with the mighty nova.

Do you have any fault codes?

Also my mate has a 1.2 on 1.4 block and because of using 1.4 manifold the ports are of a smaller diameter that head, this is causing it to be shite upto around 3000rpm, either that or it is timing. You have a set of cams in yours, maybe these need setting up on the pulley? Also the Mantzel manifold setup maybe the problem, what has changed since it ran fiine?

I don't have much experience with 16v systems so I only have basic suggestions but it sounds like setup issues.

Good luck

Robb

All input apreciated! :D

I think its almost def a sensor issue as the problem comes and goes completely randomly!
Even when its running crap, all of a sudden it will explode into life!

Bizarre!

Bad connections is also another possibility then.

Can you get fault codes from it? It may tell you which one is not working right.

I have no idea what the fock it is!
Spent hours on it last night! And it ran fine for 20 miles! got it home and it went gay again!

I prob need to wire up a diagnostic plug in somewhere. No idea how though! lol

Is it not the same as the 2.0l 16v? they have an ECU light which just flashes and correponds to a table of faults.

Check out the wiring in haynes for the diagnostic wire(s), should show where they are or colour and what they are attached to at least.

what sort of air filter setup do you have?
if you are not getting enough cold air, it will run like that.

It kicked up 25 fault codes but most are the same issues.

So you have sorted it out then?

It would be a shame to have put all that effort in and have a car that just ran crap for weeks.

P.S.

Yes we will be removing an engine saturday so pop down, your mate can collect the white GSi as well if he wants!!!

Ill be down on saturday then,

he has just found an MK2 astra 1.6 for his, but we need a box for it. It may well be fudged though as it has "oil drained ??/08/02" on the cam cover. Very rattly startup!

I'll see if he still wants it. Will collect a backbox of somesort for someone else if poss.

I take it the fault codes lead to the problem and it's fine again? (Wills car)

Like i said the 1.6 astra Carb engine is a bad decision!

Wills engine is a bit strange at the moment.

Got loads of backbox's.
