It's the time of registration that determines the plate, was there a T-reg 3 door Cosworth in one of the mags a few years back?

They carried on production of the Nova van into m-reg as the corsa combo thingy wasn't ready. So its entirely feasible someone could've converted one or managed to get a 'compound car' i.e one that had been sitting at the factory unregistered for a while.

I've seen 1 too!

I spotted an M reg van a few years back in Luton, was white and a proper workhorse, covered in dents and scratches.

I've seen nova vans in the auctions on 'm' and 'n' plates!

Of no relevance to Novas but I saw a Mk2 Golf GTi on a M-plate about 2 months ago, in B&Q car park in Reading.
