1.
you have three bags of sweets containing 10 sweets in each bag.
the sweets weigh 1g each, except for one bag, they weight 1.1g each.
the sweets are simular in shape and size (no, you can not tell the difference)
what you have to do is.
find out which bag is the bag with the heavy sweets in.
you have a set of scales, that can ONLY be used once and once only (the batterys are dead after one use)
so tell me how to find out how to do it?
2.
romeo and juliet are found dead in a tower.
there are no windows and the door is locked (no one has been in there)
there's a sofa in the room, a bowl and a cat.
How did romeo and juliet die?

the sweets just put any two bags on the scales and if the totals is 2g then the two bag which have been placed on the scales are the two lighter one and if the total is 2.1g then ...... uh just thought thats not going to work lol

it would work, but not quite like that. (i think)
take 1 sweet from 1 of the bags. weigh one of the other bags and the one -1 sweet at the same time.
if th total is still 20G, the bag you took the sweet out of is the heavier bag. if the weigh is down to 19g then the bag you didnt weight must be the heavier bag.,

put all 3 bags on the scales
the weight should be 31 g
then remove one bag at a time and note the weight drop.
there you go, single use (as the time of use isnt implied)

what camb said is the thing that first came to my mind when i read it.

as for the technical bit camb is trying to bring into it. those batteries in the scales will only last long enough for 2 seconds then. you wont get time to take a bag of sweets off..
i'll clear this bit up for you, as i think you are not working it out correct.
bag1 = 10g (10 sweets at 1g each)
bag2 = 10g same
bag3 = 11g (as 10 x 1.1g is 11g)
ps, just cause i have said bag3 is the heaviest i am only using it as an example.
if you put 2 bags on the scales, you might get lucky and get the heavest one left off, or you might have to guess a 50/50 with the 2 on the scales.
the correct way will tell you exactly which bag it is.

It will work like this:
Remove one sweet from one packet and place that packet, along with either of the other packets on the scales.
If you have removed a sweet which weighs 1.1g from a packet the weight will show as 18.9g meaning that the heaviest bag is the one containing only 9 sweets (plus the one you took out just now).
If you have removed a sweet which weighs 1g the weight will show as 19g IF the other bag on the scales is also a light bag. IF the other bag on the scales is the heavy bag, the weight will be 20g.
THAT DOES WORK. If you have another way, please tell me... but that is how i would do it.

well thats a bloody stupid way to go about it. why would you want to have all those sweets in your hand, you'd get sticky... and be tempted to eat them all.
PLUS it would mean you had three open bags of sweets instead of just one lol.
now your just being picky cause you solved it a different way.
thought i would leave them on here for people to have a think about something in muppet as opposed to some random naked pics or some shit (in a pan)
