im thinking of converting my 1.2i for a 1.4. what would be best for tuning potential, an sr or sri? and what sort of power can be got from these engines for not too much money.

how much is your budget?
If u had an sr then For ?500ish u could get a cam, and T40's for it and see about 90bhpish.

if u had an sri u can put a better cam in for about ?200 (New Kent) or chip it maybe. Not sure what performance u'd get.

sri = more power as standard
sr = eaiser to do the conversion, no messing about with wiring

is it harder to put the engine in a 1.2i than a 1.2 carb?

not really was just sayin that if you had a carb version an sr engine would just go straight in - 5 bolts a few wires and pipes lol but as you have an injection model to fit a carb you would have to do away with bits of the loom like ecu and all that and would have to even change the petrol tank for a carb one (even though i think you need to change it for the sri one)

i think u need a good chunk of the sri loom aswell though if you're gonna fit it in an spi car.

best option that'll give u nearly 100bhp is to use sri engine and fit T40's.

That way there is no need for any more electrcal swapping.

get the SR engine mate...less hassle...

if you go lairy with the cam on the SRI etc the ECU wont be able to cope if you keep the injection...

...get the SR lump...stick a decent cam and carb on there, get the SRI head on there and the SR exhaust and you'll be away

cheers for the advice.

how long do you think the car would have to be off the road to do the swap. my dads taken a couple of engines out of fords and said he done it in a couple of days.
