starter!!

Hi,

the starter on my engine just seems to freeze from time to time, no noise when you try to start it and sometimes i have to bump it or batter the starter with a nice big pole. i thought it was just my car, and a few i had before, but it seems quite a common fault... any ideas what is causing it?? i even fitted a "still boxed" shiney starter and after a while it done the same thing.

You have had a few before? on the same shell?

If so you need to check your engine to body earthe strap, there is sometimes one coming down with the live for starter for you to fix to engine, otherwise one on end of box to chassis leg.

Also ensure your batt terminals are fully tight, mine weren't and the earth lead kept coming off!
