Hi,

Me and a mate just fitted a 1.4 block, dizzy and cam to his 1.2 last night, bout 3am!

He has all the timing light and emissions things to set it up perfect but the valve timing may be out. Basically it still goes like the 1.2 (and the 1.2 block ISNT still in the car before someone smart says you refitted the wrong block!

Anyone got any ideas or any 1.2 to 1.4 setup information.

Thanks in advance peeps

have you checked the cam belt's aligned correctly. a tooth out causes running problems

when it settles down you will notice a bit more. If u were to use the 1.4 cam aswell thaT SHOULd see a much more noticable improvment.

a 1.4 block, dizzy and cam to his 1.2
It is a 1.4 cam.

We have had a look at the belt and it was slack alice, fitted a new one and messed about with timing and it runs alot smoother now, haven't driven yet cos it was late again when we ran it.

It definately isn't a tooth out now we have fitted new belt as marks line up perfect.

Will run it tonight and see if it is any better.

thanks

sorry, didn't see that.

U should see a big improvement. What carb u using? if its still the 1b1 Pierburg then its prob not man enough for the job.

If u are using a 2e3 then perhaps it needs a rebuild and cleaning if its not been used for a bit.

We finally got it going well, it managed to eat all the rockers, 2 lifters and 3 valves!

No the revs weren't off the guage.

It flew for a 1.4 tho, I have a GSi and I would be scared racing that!

im thinking of doing the same job!

putting on a 1.4 bottom end, a gte cam and a f13wr 5-speed box and keeping the 1.2i head!

i want to keep it spi with the 1.2i head, will i have any problems, is there anything else i would have to use form the 1.4i?

im doing it this way as i dont want anyone to know its a 1.4i when really its only a 1.2i

plus, whats the bhp output of the 1.4i?

cheerz!

the spi head and injection is crap. even worse than the standard 1.4 head

what's the point?? any one looking under the bonnet will look at the engine number rather than trying to figure out if it's a carbed or spi

1.2Spi and 1.4SR heads are virtually identical - both crap. Any iprovements from the head will only come from fitting MPi or 1.2 and 1.3 carb heads. Theres a very useful sticky topic to read!

Just out of interest, how did you manage to kill all 8 rockers? :o

...And the great big '1.4' embossed on the block might be a slight giveaway

1.4spi is 60bhp mate.

a 1.2carb nova could beat that just about if it had zorst and filter lol.

1.4 SPi is also shit then?!?!!!!!

Erm I dunno how he did the rockers, also 2 lifters and 3 valves

It is now running fineish, very lumpy on 3 cyl under 2000rpm and fine above.

Still not as good as my mates SR and nowhere near my GSi which he hopes to be at, well I have no head gasket cos it stopped working and leaked water!
